This songlist may start and end with textspeak, of the kind which will make your English teacher explode, but wedged between is a collection of musical wonders which people of any age can enjoy. A list which takes in the King of Pop at his peak, the three queens of frostypop at their peak, and a blonde man getting a curly-haired man to sing a song about a bike, on a peak (probably).
And those aren't even the best songs on the list - in my humble opinion. How about that strange John Matthias, with his dark, wheezy pub piano and stretchy ghost noises? Unusual, eh? And that Pretty Reckless song is a direct and surly challenge to anyone listening. It says "forget me at your peril, I can very easily bite your face off." Frankly, they had me at the first chorus.
One interesting thing which has arisen from making this week's Spotify playlist - - is that there isn't a version of Katy B's 'Katy On A Mission' on Spotify which is sung by Katy herself. But there are SIXTEEN other versions. Some covers and some instrumentals for karaoke purposes. Isn't technology strange sometimes?
Now, I'm going to do what I normally do and pick a personal favourite. But I'm aware it's going to be a controversial choice if you weigh it up against, say, Michael Jackson. But I've got to go with my heart on this. There is just something about 'Boys And Girls' by Pixie Lott which feels like the best bit of a spectacularly good party, or walking down the street with all of your friends, heading for something amazing. Even the Pretty Reckless have to bow down to Pixie's power, on this song at least.
OK, gimme your faves, and pronto!
