It's all getting very "week three" around here .....

It's all getting very "week three" around here ...... Anyone who has worked on Springwatch will know what I mean. It's a point when a combination of fatigue, elation and (porta)cabin fever starts bringing out bizarre thoughts and behaviours in the Springwatch production team. Suddenly there's a lot more laughter around the production village, but it's slightly too manic (dare I say crazed ....) to be taken as normal. I think in the armed forces they call this "de-mob happy" ... we call it "very week three".

Rehearsals have become .... let's be polite here ..... "impressionistic" and production meetings are peppered with random thoughts and wild ideas, some of which actually make it onto the telly. And it's not just the producers and presenters who are beginning to lose the plot. Our editors are cutting stranger and stranger video packages (just look at the coot fight in tonight's show). All around there are people looking like they've been here forever, but all knowing that in just 48 hours, the Springwatch family will be disbanding once more.

And in true Springwatch style, it's not just the production team who have got into the festive spirit - you, the audience, are letting the Springwatch madness get to you. The messageboards are getting so busy and friendly that its only a matter of time before we get our first Springwatch marriage proposal. Is it possible to have a virtual wedding ceremony? Last year our wonderful messageboarders had a virtual wrap party! (Don't get the wine and nibbles out yet, folks - remember, we're keeping the messageboards open for an extra week this year because next week we have a whole week of Springwatch Specials)

You've been busy on the message boards helping us build tomorrow's show - the last of the live shows (aaaaaaaaaaah!!). You've been letting us know what your favourite bits of this series have been, and making suggestions for the "2008 Springwatch Awards", which we will be announcing to the nation. Who will win the award for bravery ? What about best newcomer ? Tune in tomorrow to find out the results of our completely unscientific poll.

There have also been some serious outbreaks of creative frivolity on the messageboards. We find this deeply shocking because we like to take ourselves extremely seriously (NOT !! It's week three, remember .....). I'd like to draw your attention to a couple of particularly amusing threads (conversations) on the message board, both fuelled by the prolific poster "Devon Cookie Monster" who seems to be a dab hand at compositing pictures to humorous effect.

Have a look at this thread for some rather fine Springwatch-inspired feature film ideas. And (unless you are worried about innuendo, in which case LOOK AWAY NOW) have a look at this thread for an alternative look at the newspaper coverage that Springwatch has been getting.

That's the spirit. The Springwatch spirit. Love wildlife, but remember to have fun in the process.

In a few days we'll all be able to have a wee lie down and get rational again. In the meanwhile, roll on week three ! (LOL, slightly crazed ...).
