About Carl Doran
I became editor of in 2006 when from ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Television Centre in London to Birmingham's NEC. It was the first time the show had been filmed outside of London and it was also the first time ever that members of the public were able to come along and watch the show live.
I'm also now Editor of for the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ. Having raised £50 million in its first three outings Sport Relief is back in March 2008 and promises to be bigger and better than ever before. For many years I was series producer of the popular quiz working with presenters David Coleman and Sue Barker, plus captains Ian Botham, Bill Beaumont, Ally McCoist, Frankie Dettori, John Parrott and Matt Dawson.
I'm from a sports-mad family. When my sister and I were growing up in Liverpool we weren't allowed to have anything red in the house, including tomato sauce because my dad was such an avid Evertonian! I'm not quite as bad as my father, but I am still a life-long season ticket holder at Goodison Park.
When I was very young I set my heart on being football commentator. From the age of 11 I'd send in tapes of myself commentating on Match of the Day pictures to the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ and to local radio stations' sports editors on Merseyside - the highly respected Charles Lambert and Clive Tyldsley. After a couple of years of getting nice rejections, Charles eventually gave up saying no and offered me a role helping behind the scenes on Radio Merseyside sport.
Through school and University I worked for Radio Merseyside, doing just about everything and eventually my contacts there helped me get a job as a television researcher for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Manchester.
I've been in television ever since and I've been privileged to be involved with many fantastic sporting programmes and events including Question of Sport, Sport Relief, Sports Personality of the Year and Celebrity Pot Black. I also edited the international highlights at the in Manchester, which was one of favourite sporting experiences.
I live in Manchester, but my three young children are all Evertonians - and they are allowed to have tomato sauce!
