I'm the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's media correspondent and this is my brief selection of what's going on.

³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ director general Mark Thompson has been accused of endangering the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's editorial independence by meeting Downing Street officials to discuss coverage of the Government's spending cuts and . The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ said he had made it clear its independence was paramount and they were talking to all the major parties about a season of programmes about the Coalition's Spending Review.

The the Government is under pressure to set up a judicial inquiry into phone-hacking at the News of the World, after the paper confirmed it had suspended a journalist while it investigated new allegations of illegal activity. The prime minister's media adviser Andy Coulson has denied a report in the New York Times, claiming he freely discussed the use of unlawful techniques.
