One man's dream died while another's life changed forever on a scintillating, sweltering final day at Augusta.

Charl Schwartzel scrapped his way through a crowded leaderboard to clinch the maiden major title that will mark him out for the rest of his career.

McIlroy, the long-time leader, had barely put a foot wrong over three-and-a-half rounds. But one bad shot sparked a sequence of events that he will rue for days, weeks and months - possibly forever.

Golf could be set for a changing of the guard at Augusta on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Rory McIlroy goes into the final round of the Masters with a four-shot lead, poised to become the second youngest winner after Tiger Woods.

To McIlroy's generation, Woods is the icon, the man they watched as kids, the man who changed the sport. They could be about to get their own icon.

Moving Day came a day early at the Masters this year.

Saturday is traditionally the day when the pack shuffles itself for the final hand.

But while overnight leader Rory McIlroy remained impervious and edged two clear, the chasing pack, like a Tour de France peloton leaving the lone breakaway out in front, massed ready for the sprint.

The two most notable moves came from opposite ends of the experience spectrum.

The 21-year-old scorched to a seven-under 65 to take a commanding lead for most of the first round of the , drawing instant comparisons with his opening 63 in the Open at last year. Then, he crashed to a second round of 80.

The question now is, how will McIlroy pick up the very large gauntlet he has laid down at Augusta?
