EA I suspect have only an idea of how the river would respond to such an event where as the water companies will know how their sewers will react in such an event.
Net cause of designing to something higher than 1 in 30 year event is significantly higher water rates.
OUR RIVERS FLOOD IN THE RAIN AND DRY UP IN THE DRY SEASON, WHY DO WE NOT DREDGE OUR RIVERS TO A DEPTH THAT WILL ACCOMODATE OUR LOW LEVEL DOMESTIC DRAIN SYSTEM WITHOUT A BACK FLOW AND PROVIDE ADEQUATE ABSTRACTION DURING DROUGHT.
