    Not all of the dongles work with the Vista readyboost feature. I purchased a Lexar "GB one from Staples - not expensive - and has really speeded things up.

    The more boring solution is to make sure you've uninstalled all the rubbish you will have had pre-installed: trial versions, software you'll never use, etc.

    Mepis is not bad, especially as you can run it from RAM only (that is, not touching your hard discs at all, unless you select to do so). 256MB is enough for the version I have, so you can try it without having to install it on your computer.     I've not touched M$ Vista, I heard how bad it was performing on existing computers, last thing I need is slow up this poor old thing...

    SO now claiming that the slow speed is due to our computers being networked and says he can take mine off the network if I buy a new printer for myself. Since he rarely uses the printer we already have and there is anyway no room for a new printer in my study we are at an impasse on this since I think it would be a waste of money to have a second one.

    It's exciting things like this that make happy marriages apparently.
