The newsletter only

Eddie Mair | 13:52 UK time, Tuesday, 17 April 2007

just started arriving because today's editor (the classy bloke from earlier) FORGOT to send it. I will mention no names. We're expecting a news conference on the shootings in Virginia any moment, and we're looking at the story of an 81 year old who's been jailed for breaching her asbo - already a talking point on the Blog. Roger Sawyer.

Hello Roger Sawyer. Classless, eh? Priceless, certainly!

81-year old ASBO woman might well be a good story to follow behind while she serves her sentence. I'd be intrigued to find out the effect her presence has on other inmates, staff, etc. I imagine she'll be well treated - just as long as she behaves. Oh, I forgot! she doesn't know how to behave, does she? That should make any follow up doubly interesting.

So, Eddie, do we have an idea that will run here?

Ah, the bongs. I've got all the timings of the gaps, you know. I've the dates and other bits of useful information logged as well. They're all recorded on my tape machine and logged in my red Analaysis book. You'd be surprised how its all mounting up, I know I am!

I've a special stopwatch. It records the empty seconds perfectly - it's waterproof too. Oh yes, I may even produce a pie chart to illustrate the 'gap' frequencies. We had none of this with Val Singleton did we?

    Is that Roger Sawyer, classless.
    Or Roger Sawyer, no class?

    Confused.

Talking about the elderly lady who has been sent (very rightly) to prison, can I ask why 'young offenders' below the age of 18* are not named in the media when sentenced? In my mind, if the crime they commit is an adult one, as they so often are, they should be treated like adults when it comes to the punishment. Age should be no barrier to taking responsibility for the consequences of your actions. Any thoughts, or should I move this into the Burrowed Frow?

    *or is it 16?

On the other hand -- reward, eh? Oh well, that's something to aim for :-)

Fiona (16) If you think I'm naughty you must've read something naughty into my post. What does that say about you then?... ;-)

I shall press charges for passing off - he seems to think he's so terribly up to date, anyone would think he was a news reporter type with all this blather in the PM Newsletter about the United States about to invade Iraq - piffle, never happen.

    Where is the ice?
