I don't know about you but
Kazakhstan is one of my favourite Stans. I wish we heard more about it on the radio.

Kazakhstan is one of my favourite Stans. I wish we heard more about it on the radio.

My favourite Stan is my 99 year-old father in law.
Oh absolutely, Eddie. Joint second place along with Mr Laurel in my book.
Reporting on Kazakhstan this evening by any chance?
Ogden - now there was a Stan!
Mine is Stan Laurel.
My favourite Stan? Laurelstan, of course!
Is this a clue, Eric?
Or just a hint that we hear too much about Londonistan.
I quite like Stan Laurel, myself...
What about nice Mr Baldwin?
Laurelstan's looking good for top Stan ......
No time for a full post now - I need to do some research on this - it is, I think covered in the recent Rory Bremner 'dossier' book. Apparently the various 'stans have in common :-
* relatively poor government
* absolutely huge oil reserves
As they used to ask on 'A Question of Sport'..
'What happens next..?'
Answers on a postcard to the usual address.
Bedd (9), Do you mind if I tell you that every time I see your name I think "Red Alert! -- It's Bedd Gelert!!" and smile to myself? You're probably going to tell me that my rhyming pronunciation is all wrong, but, hey, thanks for the cheer anyway :-)
Stan Lombardo, a man who knows is for performing out loud
Salaaaam...

Every day.

I like Tataristan. It's where the terrestrial lands that are suitable for agriculture are much located on the banks of Idyll and Kama rivers. Idyll & 'calmer'. Ah!! I feel better already!
My favourite Stan is a former colleague, Stan Wiltshire.
And whenever I see "Bedd Gelert" I think of a famous dog.
Personally, I like Kyrgystan, purely as it has only one vowel:-)
John T, it sounds too good to be true - idyll and Kama
I'm a pretty upright and steady sort of bloke. Why has nobody mentioned me?
I quite like stan (by your man)
I'm upright, too, and illuminating.
FF (currently 15)
You're right. Apart from the fact that you omitted a "z" from the name, we seem to missing the most exciting from that neck of the woods. Wonder what he was doing in a threatening manner.
HI VERY LANE
Whoops! I missed the spelling mistake. Thanks for catching that loose "z" and restoring it to it's rightful place :-)
You know, Vyle(18) I think you've found the perfect story for Eddie to lead with this evening...
There's nobody sharper than me, you know!
I've been upright for longer that any of you. I think I at least deserve a mention.
Well, it's pretty plain to me that this "favourite Stan" discussion is turning into a dispute in which no agreement can be reached.
Ah, fight and debate all you like - I'm only here to cover for Eddie. (Yeah - he's on another sickie!)
Actually, Stan is one of my favourite Kazakhs.
AH VERY NILE
Vyle H. (14)
Funny, Bedd Gelert makes me think of a dog too.
Though more because of its (relative) proximity to Porthmadog.
Porthmadog, as you may know, is derived from a mix of French and English, "Porte ma dog", literally, "carry my dog". It is said to have been a request to her Marseille-born lady-in-waiting Camille de Montefeux by the multilingual Infanta di Castilla when travelling to the Llyn Peninsula in 1743. She later, upon her visit to London became the namesake of "Elephant and Castle".
Ever,
Wolf
Something's afoot.
Ap (28) - You've heard then!!
Lee (29), Hahahaha -- but shoudn't you be telling that to Big Sister?
