What a wonderful story. I like the sound of Moses.
"For God and the Empire." Who says religion's got PR problems? Could he also be knighted? If he were, would the Crown send out a request for him to appear before the Queen so she can do that thing with the sword on his shoulders? Hmmm, "Sir Moses", has a catchy ring to it. Will he be named person of the year MDCXLVIII BC too? I'm afraid they're just a jot too late with this one. Had he only lived long enough to enjoy it. Why doesn't someone send Tony Blair some money so he can be declared a peer and become a member of the House of Lords. From what I've heard about them, he'd be no deader than half the other members there anyway including those who still have a pulse. I wonder how he'd vote, Labour, Lib-Dem, or Tory. I'd bet on Labour. After all he'd feel a certain kinship with Labour having carried those heavy stone tablets around down from Mount Sinai the way he did.
Oops... I see one potentially big problem here with Sir Moses' knighthood. Would he have to wear the the Grand Cross? I don't know if he'd agree to that, after all, he is Jewish :>)
In post 2 Mark threw up all over us with: 鈥淥ops... I see one potentially big problem here with Sir Moses' knighthood. Would he have to wear the the Grand Cross? I don't know if he'd agree to that, after all, he is Jewish :>)鈥
Mark:
I thought you sometimes exhibited foolishness, now I know that you are indeed a fool.
Unfortunately you are not even a humorous fool for which there might be a reason to leave you alone in your ignorance.
Moses was an Isaelite of the tribe of Levi. The tribe of Levi descended from Levi, son of Jacob. Moses' forefather Levi lived four centuries before the time of Moses. Moses lived probably between the 13th and 15th centuries B.C. The time of his life is debated.
In the days of Moses, the tribe of Judah existed, but the Jewish people as we now know them did not yet exist. Judah, one of the twelve sons of Jacob, was the patriarch of the tribe of Judah. Judah lived four centuries before Moses.
The Jewish nation came into being in the 10th century B.C. after the reign of King Solomon, some 300 to 500 years after the time of Moses. After the reign of King Solomon, the nation of Israel split into two kingdoms: a northern kingdom and a southern kingdom. The southern kingdom consisted of the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and the Levites dispersed among those tribes. The northern kingdom consisted of the tribes of Asher, Dan, Ephraim, Gad, Issachar, Manasseh, Naphtali, Reuben, Simeon, Zebulon, and the Levites dispersed among those tribes.
The southern kingdom came to be associated with Judah, the dominant southern tribe. The northern kingdom came to be associated with Ephraim, the dominant northern tribe.
In 721 B.C., the Assyrian empire exiled and dispersed the northern kingdom of Israel among the nations. The Israelites of the former northern kingdom assimilated with the nations, losing their identity. A remnant of the southern kingdom, however kept its identity despite a Babylonian exile in the 6th century B.C. and a worldwide dispersion caused by the Romans in the first and second centuries A.D.
The Jewish people, as we know them today, are the identifiable remnant of Israel's southern kingdom.
Judaism is the religion practiced by the Jewish people. Some Jewish people are not physical descendants of Israel's ancient southern kingdom, but are converts to Judaism.
Was Moses Jewish? No.
The Jews are the identifiable remnant of Israel's ancient southern kingdom, which came into being several centuries after Moses' time.
Was Moses a practitioner of Judaism?
Jews believe that God gave Moses the Law that became the foundation of Judaism, but there is no historical evidence to suggest that the oral tradition of Pharisaic Judaism existed in Moses' time. Judaism's oral tradition emerged in written history many centuries after the time of Moses.
Was Moses Christian? Moses was an Isaelite of the tribe of Levi.
BUT, Jesus, he WAS a Jew!
AND, Mark, you ARE an .......!
Maureen
"And Mark you are an ...!"... ass for having posted anything you know more about than I do in the first place Maureen. I guess that's just about everything. I'd better keep my mouth shut from here on out if I don't want to get my ears boxed by Maureen every time. Man you are a nosy one Maureen. So you are fishing around to find out more about me huh? Well if you must know, I'm Inuit. That's Eskimo to you. How about a nice slab of walrus blubber. Keeps you real warm in those dark winters. Wouldn't need it though in Bermuda. How was it playing around in the Saint George Sands last week or were you closer to Hamilton? Was it too cold for the beach? Life's a beach in Bermuda, ain't it?
Re 4 Mark wrote: "Wouldn't need it though in Bermuda. How was it playing around in the Saint George Sands last week or were you closer to Hamilton? Was it too cold for the beach? Life's a beach in Bermuda, ain't it?"
Mark: Now I'm getting worried! Why did you form all of these wild assumptions concerning Bermuda?
I keep telling you the error you make in continuing to try and metaphorize me!
You have now reached a 'belief' that I am, or was, in Bermuda.
If you are referring to my earlier post in which I said:
"Dear, Dear, Mark - was your new year's celebration a very long night? Things in Bermuda were very dull!"
That is not factual evidence for my presence in Bermuda, now or ever. Someone made the statement to me earlier in the day. You read into 'hearsay' a 'truth' about me that was not there.
You see sometimes what we think we know we really don't know. All of us suffer from allowing our insights about truth to be colored by our biases. In this respect you are no different from those you vilify.
Peace,
Maureen
So, you deliberately led me down the garden path again. Is the real world that unpleasant that you have to find escape in fantasies and metaphors? I've been to Bermuda 4 times. This is the off season. It's too cold now for the beach anyway. Have you ever actually been there? If you do go, take a camera, it is one of the most photogenic places I've ever been. You can point your lens almost anywhere and hardly miss a great shot. And the natives are genuinely friendly. The place is so expensive, they have nothing to sell tourists and they know it. It's different from the Carribean. By comparison, Bermuda is manicured, not a blade of grass dares to be out of place.
MArk and Maureen you should just have a coffee date - you are clearly flirting here ;-)
Helen Hays;
I'm not sure about Maureen. In another Blog, Maureen claimed to be a man. I think Maureen was quite explicit about it after it was clear I didn't understand Maureen's statement that Maureen's self image was of a George Sands in reverse. While I'm as open minded as anyone, my personal preferences are restricted to what was once called (politically incorrectly now) "the fairer sex."
Also, the fact is that we are worlds apart in many ways, two ships as it were passing in the night on the internet only communicating by ship to ship signals like sailors did with signal lights in those old movies.
Maureen; Blink blink....blink blink blink...blink blink. I await your reply :>)
An OBE isnt a KNIGHTHOOD. Duh.
KBE, GBE, OBE, ABE....Kat Kit, I know all that. I actually bothered to look it up. I was just having a little fun with it. A lot of you people have no sense of humor because you have no imagination. How bleak.
Helen and Kat Kit:
Mark is not my type - he has no 'style'. When he's wrong as he was on Moses he follows with a rant about Bermuda - when it is pointed out that he is wrong about Bermuda he claims he was 'misled' - when he's wrong on the OBE he claims that he knew that and you are the one who has no 'sense of humor' and suffer from bleakness - his solution is to throw you out of the boat if you 'box' his ears.
He knows everything yet he adds nothing. He's like a giant parrot that squawks about everything it has been taught. I haven't seen him synthesize one original position that would cause one to pause and ponder.
But there is one good thing about him - if you throw some bait in the water he will take the hook immediately and draw a dozen more incorrect conclusions.
This is a piece of bait - now watch!
Peace,
Maureen
Maureen, I am not surprised that you have no time to pause and ponder now that I've thrown you out of the boat and into the water. BTW, I've not only managed to bail out all of the water from both ends, I've plugged the holes and set a straight course for the shores of sanity, no more going around in circles.
And oh...while you're learning how to swim on your own for the first time without a life preserver, watch out for the sharks. They'll get you every time. You're my bait to divert them away from my rowboat while I escape. I learned fishing from a good teacher....you!
Alas, nobody even asked about ABE. What a pity. Now it's all about to go "below the waves."
Mark, Maureen,
Not that either of you seemed inclined to, but from personal experience I would strongly advise against attempts at forming a relationship between a rational, atheists scientist and a person of strong religious convictions. I've tried it, and while it seemed very interesting and pleasant for half a year, in the end it caused me more pain than anything else since I moved to Northern Ireland (Gladys Ganiel, if you ever read this thread, I still nourish a bitter resentment against you for your repeated dishonesty and deceptions).
Peter Klavier;
Thank you for your sound advice but frankly, I don't think there is any chance of that. There are a lot of reasons why it can't and won't happen. It's hard to know where Maureen's playful banter we engage in ends and anything Maureen intends seriously begins. But one thing Maureen said in a thread that doesn't appear here anymore is that Maureen is a man, not a woman. I didn't get it at first when Maureen's self described self image was a George Sands in reverse and so Maureen explained it explicitly. Whether Maureen is in fact a man taking the moniker on this board of a woman or a woman who wants me to think she is doesn't matter. I've come here for a mutually enjoyable exchange of words and ideas with other people and nothing more. By the way, this is the last posting of the bottom most thread so it may disappear before you have a chance to read it.
Mark, #15,
Your post is there to read for me. Though part of my post may have sounded serious, I didn't expect great romance to flourish between you and her(him?) :)
More than anything, it was probably a bit of steam blow-off for me!
