A footballer's Christmas

It's been another frustrating week for me leading into Christmas. I couldn't train much last week because I had a slight hamstring strain and my family was sharing around a virus so I had to keep away from the training ground anyway.

I've still got a bit of a sore throat but I've been itching to get out there on the training ground this week and get a full week's work done in preparation for our big match on Boxing Day. On the whole I am feeling much better and I am raring to go again.

I watched the Swansea game from the stands. I thought we did OK - that will sound silly to some people because but during the first half we competed well apart from conceding the goals on the counter-attack.

All change at Wednesday

It's certainly been an eventful week at Sheffield Wednesday. I thought - I was on the bench again - but we conceded early on through Steve Howard and, with the way things have gone recently, you could see the lads' heads dropped.

Over the last few weeks when we've gone a goal down it has felt like there is a mountain to climb and it did again at Leicester. It wasn't too long before we were 2-0 down and that's never a good position to be in at half time away from home. We ended up going down 3-0 and, ultimately, that led to us .

Without wanting to sound like a broken record, we need to find a goal from somewhere, whether it goes in off somebody's backside or is a worldy goal from 40 yards. Something freakish needs to happen for us at the moment and it needs to happen sharpish.

Sheffield Wednesday had fairly high expectations at the start of the season. Have those changed? Well, I guess there's a question mark over that at the moment because of the situation we find ourselves in, just above the

There are managers in the bottom five or six of this division who still seem to have ambitions of the play-offs. That just shows you how open the division is.

But we can't think about challenging for the play-offs in the situation we are in right now. We have to have the mentality of being in a dogfight because that's the only way we will start to get results.

Left deflated by home defeat

All of us were left really, really disappointed after our last Saturday. I was disappointed personally but as a group of players we were all deflated collectively.

It was the performance none of us ever wanted to see as a team and none of us were satisfied with the way we played.

A result like that spoils your whole week, not just your weekend. You want to lock yourself away at home and not have to see the newspapers and media reports.

We let ourselves down but we also have to be realistic about the result because it is not going to do us any favours to dwell on that one game. It was always going to be tough against West Brom because they are flying high.
