His book "Cheltenham Past and Present" has just been launched and he'll be signing copies this Saturday 20th at British Books on the Strand, Cheltenham, from 12.00pm until 1.00pm.
Meanwhile enjoy a "then and now" extract from the book. It's the Cadena Café in the Strand part of the High Street.

I can remember it being very old and smelt of freshly made coffee. Us kids used to each have a finger ham roll and a cold drink as a treat every now and then. It's lovely to see a picture of it which confirms what I remembered. Thank you for the memories.

My friend used to work in what I thought I remember as the Cadena in the Prom, & I used to go in for a coffee & yummy cake sometimes. I seem to remember going up a few steps to some tables at the back of the cafe & I would sit at one of those tables. This place also smelled of fresh coffee. If it wasn't the Cadena in the Prom, does anyone know what it was called? This would have been in the early 1950s. Age may have dimmed my memory!!, but I know it was a cafe in the Prom & not in the High Street where my friend worked.
