2008...Ones to watch
Okay, here you go - my ones to watch for 2008.
*FOR MOVIE BUFFS*
*Star Wars: The Force Unleashed* (Multi) - Spring/Summer
Yes, it's another Star Wars game, but this is one to get seriously excited about. Now the films are finished, George Lucas and co. are pouring their creative energies into new projects like this. Set between Episodes III and IV, you become Vader's new apprentice, exploring the incredible power of the dark side. And yes, the Wii version comes with full lightsaber controls we've been gagging for!
*FOR ACTION-SEEKERS*
*Metal Gear Solid 4* (PS3) - Late Spring/Summer
Not suitable for children
We've been waiting ages for what we're told is Solid Snake's final mission. The stealth-action series has been one of the all-time greats, and this PlayStation 3 exclusive promises to be one of 2008's must-have games.
*Grand Theft Auto IV* (PS3, 360) - March/April
Not suitable for children
With the game suppose to have released last autumn, it's been acruel wait for GTA fans. But the wait is almost over. Set in the stunningly detailed Liberty City - based on the real-world Big Apple. The hype is off the scale - can the game live up to expectations?
*FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT*
*WiiFit *(Wii) - Spring
Nintendo's next great idea: the Balance Board. It's a plastic square you stand on, which measures your weight and balance with great precision. Already a massive hit in Japan, this could be a big hit with casual gamers over here, and those looking to keep in shape.
*FOR KIDS (BIG AND SMALL*
*Super Smash Bros. Brawl* (Wii) - Spring
A manic, eye-popping cartoon fighting game featuring characters from across the pantheon of gaming greats, including Mario, Sonic, Solid Snake, Kirby, Donkey Kong and many more. The biggest playground scrap
in gaming this year.
*FOR PETROL HEADS*
*Gran Turismo 5* (PS3) - Winter (Prologue out this Spring)
For many car lovers, the GT series is peerless. GT5 promises to take video game racing to new levels of detail and realism when it hits latest this year. Before then, UK gamers will be able to take it for a spin in the Prologue version this Spring.
*AND FOR THE ULTIMATE PARTY*
*Rock Band* (Xbox 360, PS3) - Spring
If you love Guitar Hero, Rock Band might just change your life. Lead guitar, bass, drums and vocals all in the same package, as you and friends jam along to some of greatest anthems in history. It won't be cheap, but it's the closest you can get to being in a band without learning to play the instruments yourself!
