The Savoy Hotel

The Savoy Hotel in London plays an important part in the history of radio in Britain. Concerts from its fabulous ballroom were relayed to the nation via one of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's earliest studios in nearby Savoy Hill. This was in the nineteen twenties.

Today I found myself in that very same ballroom as I attended the Radio Academy's Patron's Lunch and watched as a handful of legendary broadcasters were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The best gag of the afternoon came from the event compere Ken Bruce who explained that the former ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Chairman Michael Grade couldn't be with us because the Beeb was treating him to a farewell lunch.

"Apparently they've taken him to a nice little in Piccadilly."
