Did the right person win Strictly Come Dancing?
Kara Tointon, with her partner Artem Chigvintsev, has won the final of ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One's Strictly Come Dancing. Did the right person win?
Series 10 started on 11 September with 14 celebrities including Ann Widdecombe, Gavin Henson and Felicity Kendal. The dancers who made it to the final were: former Eastenders actor Kara Tointon; television presenter Matt Baker; and psychologist Pamela Stephenson.
Did you watch series 10? Did the right celebrity win? What have been your highlights of the series?

Highlights - some especially good competitors. Lowlights - the competition, supposedly a dance competition, being highjacked by public votes for 'comedy' acts or 'underdogs'. Overall some of the best competitors for quite a while and finalists who entirely deserved being in the final.

I can see no reason why a woman of Pamela's undoubted talent and amazing ability could not win, despite her age. As the judges said, Pamela and James adhered to the rules at all times and danced beautifully.
Kara and Artem made serious errors in two of their programmes tonight; either by including a lift where there should not have been one or not performing at least 40% of the dance in close contact. For them to win after that is not right. The judges have been biased for a while and pointing the public at voting Kara and Artem the winners, which I feel they should not have done. I thought Kara danced less well than she has of late and was not a worthy winner on tonight's performances.
I don't believe the judges should give any marks on the final night, just make comments so that the viewers can determine whether the dances were correctly executed. Matt and Aliona danced well and if Pamela and James couldn't win then I would like to have seen Matt and Aliona win, based on their efforts this evening.
I greatly enjoyed Ann and Anton's efforts, it made the programme highly entertaining. Anton was such a perfect gentleman at all times, which is much to his credit, and I can see him as the presenter once Bruce retires. Anton would be a superb host for the next series of Strictly, Bruce is getting more than a bit past it and should be retired.

Did the right person win? I am surprised people out there take it so seriously - but I suppose there would be no show if they didn't! Anne winning would have been hilarious, and would have probably had the coalition government passing some kind of Reality TV legislation to prevent such a 'travesty' ever happening again and 'upsetting people - so close to Christmas'...but it would have certainly given me (and many others) a good laugh!
I couldn't care less who won. Candy Floss TV that does what it says on the tin - take it or leave it - but if they can get another 'Anne' I might take it more than I leave it! I might even vote.
PS: Brucie is looking well the old trooper! I do miss Anthea and her 'twirls' though...

I think Matt danced well and also would have been a worthy winner but it comes down to who picks up the phone. I think the men are given a harder time than the women by the judges which is a shame.
Generally I think there is a little too much bias and favouritism by the judges who constantly voted people low so they were at a disadvantage to start with.
As to people getting a grip well it is purely light entertainment and it does no one any harm to loose sight of every day stress and enjoy the show.

He gave a 7 for Kara when Graig gave a 10 ? He also gave Matt a down graded score in their last dance. I do not think I have seen Len give a lower score than Craig.
Both Mats & Karas free style dance were poor . Matt spent more time doing gymnastics than dance and , Kara ran out of time , the music had finished before she pulled the string at the end of her free style dance.
It is hard to say who should have won . I never vote in these tv shows.
How ever I think Matt wanted to win the most. You could see he was the most competitive person in the compertition. It would be nice to see the votes total at the end ,to see if it was a narrow victory or a landslide.
I also think the runners up SHOULD recieve a runners up acolade.......

So however entertaining it may be, it is not to be taken seriously. You might as well argue over who won the Mums' egg and spoon race at school sports day.
The judges put on an act for the show.
I think Craig Revel Horwood made it clear that it is an entertainment show when asked whether Ann Widdecombe should step down and he said absolutely not, it was the viewers' choice. The viewers were choosing entertainment, and most are not capable of judging dance, as must be clear from the fact that Pamela scored the highest points yet received the fewest votes.
I'm not sure that Kara will nor any other winners have gone on to change their careers and become professional dancers.

What a lot of miseries on here today. Come on now, lighten up and loosen your corsets, it's nearly Christmas!
Yes - there are plenty more important issues going on.
No - you don't have to watch it.
No - Assange wasn't a contestant.
Yes - it's mindless TV.
Yes - it really doesn't matter in the scheme of things.
No - I don't suppose anyone in the rest of the world cares.
==============================
Congratulations on completely missing the point of why people are angry.
==========================================================
I'm not missing the point at all; there are plenty of reasons to be angry in this world. The quality of topics on HYS is NOT one of them.
Being angry doesn't usually change anything and if this is the worst thing you have to be angry about, you're a very lucky person.
Merry Christmas.

Alternatively since the result depended on a Telephone poll of those who wanted to call in, I guess a simple count of votes cast will do.
Since it was a 'Celebrity' contest the individual skills levels of the contestants were irrelivant from day one.

Does it really matter who came first? Those same viewers daft enough to vote every week were given the final say, and the majority won. That the vast majority are clueless about the technical side is immaterial - its all about image - and the pointless sychronized clapping by the audience the moment the band strikes up gives some idea of the mind-deadening drollness of it all.

Seriously - why bother to comment? Do you think discussing "serious" topics makes any difference at all? If you're genuinely concerned about world events then get involved - change things - make a difference.
Do not just sit there on your pompous butt and whinge about people not discussing the right things on an internet forum.

Er, reality programmes are about making money through telephone voting and/or increasing advertising revenues through ratings. The reality TV industry is getting worried though over the popular campaigns to discredit them (vote for Wagner, Christmas number 1s etc). What I couldn't work out is why invite Ann Widdicombe onto the programme and then complain that she's still there in the later stages?

All contestants worked hard to put on a good show each week. If it is not your cup of tea then don't drink it. Go off and watch what floats your particular boat.
One aspect that galled us was not giving the judges the opportunity to get rid of 'non' dancers. Left soley to the public these comedy acts end up staying while better dancers go home. Perhaps the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ should consider more deeply who they choose to invite onto their program.

If viewers decided, then democracy won - except that actual vote numbers are never mentioned? I dipped in to watch, especially when Anne Widdecombe ignited my interest. She made it FUN - and fair play to her given her serious background. Pamela Stephenson made it elegant and gave many people a reason to take up dancing, for the right reasons. I have no idea who "Kara" is. I understand that she was a "celebrity" from EastEnders, but then I don't watch, and there is so much hype about "celebrities".
Now, move on.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have never watched Strictly but wouldn't classify myself as a 'miserablist'. I watched an extremely interesting documentary about Operation Mincemeat that I'd recorded a couple of weeks ago. In the process I have expanded my mind and could hold a pretty decent conversation with somebody if they shared similar interests. Given that the deception was successful, it saved thousands of Allied casualties in the invasion of Sicily.
I have no clue who Tara is. I suspect that her impact on the country from an economic or strategic standpoint will be pretty much zero. Although if China manufacture plastic Tara dolls for import into the UK then it could actually be detrimental to the country's balance of payments.
And by the way. I would recommend that those that are able bodied should join a Ballroom and Latin dance class. It's a great way to stay fit and has a great social side to it. I've been 'dancing' since 2004 and have a great time. Make it a New Year's resolution. If nothing else you'll have a great laugh!
