The panel for tonight 22 July 2010 'Any questions' is the same tired, boring crowd whose principal attributs seems to be a willingness to accept a ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ appearance Fee but rarely seem to be be prepared to offer an exciting, unconventional view. Too often the panels' views are predictable and support the current policy of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ which delights in 'knocking' the new government at every opportunity.

Can we have more loyalty to a government which is trying hard to overcome the unacceptable economic and social mess, legacy of an IMPOTENT Labour Party. The new government has an unenviable task which it is facing with courage and enviable speed. Please ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ change your disloyal policy and give we the moderate public reason to be upbeat and positive NOT the current negative policy colouring too many news and question time programmes.

  • Comment number 2.

I wonder what the panels views will be in relation to the Ian Tomlison case?

  • Comment number 3.

I have the greatest respect and admiration for Dimbleby. Its a shame he never went into politics with his calm logic and centred objectivity.

Unfortunately, Questiontime, like any political debate with a panel and an audience, is too short to deliver any real detail. Look at last weeks as a classic example. Labour was over represented, the audience clearly tory-bashers. Rather than allowing any detail on the issues to be heard, we had hecklers. This isnt the 1960s and the show is not the Labour confrence. You can't properly debate any issue without detail, and as long as rhetoric and generalisation is permitted to continue to meet the time requirements then the quality of "debates" will be sorely lacking as the detail needed to have any real substance and meaning are missing.

"He said she said they said I said" is headline media focused politics. Nobody's perfect, even the great Dimbleby makes the odd mistake! Remember when Griffin was on the show. Now that was a show. People were engaged, there was controversy. But it was a rare gem of a show. The show should be twice as long, on earlier, have a larger audience AND have built into it the technology that follows audience approval as the panel give their views. And why oh why does the panel always have to have some z-list celebrity on it? Can't one panelist a week, or a month, be an everyday Joe who has to live the front-line?

Anyway, nevilleshannon makes a good point, but that is more a reflection of what our politics has become than it is of the show and Dimbleby. The main problem is that politicians are career politicians and political parties are so aligned politically that they have little or nothing ideologically separating them (presumably because the EU does so much for us making our own politicians akin to local councillors). This leaves a narrow pool from which to force a debate. Opposition oppose (they really do, it doesn't matter what the issue is, even if they agree they will agree begrudingly and conditionally and still try and score points) government govern (and you cant change your mind or make a mistake in government can you!).

So its the same old politics, same old issues, same old arguments and lots of chat and not much progress. If only Dimbleby could truely set the agenda and speak his mind a little more, that would certainly liven things up!!

  • Comment number 4.

Please give us chance to watch it.

  • Comment number 5.

Will the panel be asked where and who the ban stops at?
If Enouch Powell, Winston Churchill, or Martin luther or may even Gandi been alive would they have been Banned today??

Points of one persons view is anothers Freedom of speech!

  • Comment number 6.

I do hope the programme wont give Nick Griffin palace visit too much time, they should maybe mention there was another BNP member attending, and no problems from him.
QT shouldnt be another hour long platform for Griffin.

  • Comment number 7.

Last week's panel was too one sided as it turned out. The Tory was on his own against 4 others. This looks like a broader spectrum a fairer balance. I disagree with one response these people are boring. I think all these people have very important things to say of how we can get out of this recession and cutbacks. Each has a different answer to offer.

  • Comment number 8.

David Dimbleby should stop waisting time telling viewers how to contact the program with their comments, i.e. email, twitter etc. as I have never seen or heard any of the comments being used. It would be better to let the panel answer more questions. That is the point of the show

  • Comment number 9.

I think that Kenny MacAskill is quite right to rufuse the American Senate invite to answer questions on his decision. What right do these Americans think they have for an explanation on a Scottish matter ! America again is acting as if it's the world's moral police force. American has been responsible for more civilian deaths through its illegal actions.

  • Comment number 10.

Farage got it absolutely right, please move on to more important matters,

  • Comment number 11.

This week's right wing dominated panel:-
    Nigel Farage - Right wing
Ruth Lea - Right wing economist
    Damian Green - Right wing
    Bob Crow - Left wing
    Sadiq Khan - Left wing

Last week's edition was one of the very few for years that did not have a right wing bias and the right-wingers were up in arms because of it. I hope they stayed up to watch the right-wing 'This Week' when they would have been appeased with the obnoxious Kelvin McKenzie who seems to be on virtually every other talk show. Does he have a ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ contract? - Andrew Neil is just as insufferable as David Dimbleby.

As for the 'another left-wing' audience comments last week, the general election showed that the combined vote of Labour and the Lib Dems was 52% whereas the Tories only managed 36% therefore any random audience is bound to be left of centre.

Anyone who thinks the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ has a left wing bias is delusional as illustrated again tonight, but the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ love those on the right to complain so that they can use it as an excuse to hide their bias and say they are balanced.

Incidentally, Why did the 'comments' page close so early last week?.

  • Comment number 12.

I honestly don't recognise a single member of the panel.

The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ really are scraping the barrel this week.

I didn't realise the cut-backs had hit so hard.

  • Comment number 13.

The undemocratic views of comrade Bob are not welcome, as much as I find the policies of the BNP reprehensable.

  • Comment number 14.

Yes! the 'big society' is definately a means of big cuts

  • Comment number 15.

Bob Crowe - Typical left wing answer to a question. There are many other people in this country than public sector workers they have to share the pain. Amazing how he has forgotten that the crisis has been made worse by Gordon and Tony's 13 year spending spree

  • Comment number 16.

Sadiq Khan - yet another leftie in denial

  • Comment number 17.

AS the ConDem are going to make cuts to local councils the already there voluntary groups are going to lose finance so there will be less voluntary work

  • Comment number 18.

Ruth Lea on good form about the economy, What she did not say is that Brown did not have the guts to confess he got it wrong. Brown was captain of this ship and not the bankers,

  • Comment number 19.

Isn't it interesting that Ruth Lea's mindset describes "the problem of immigration". It truly says more about her own discomfort with a forward thinking, modern Big Society (with a capital B and S !). Ancient Hindu texts, unattributed and passed though millenia via the oral tradition described as "shruti", teaches us to look within to conquer our own fears. These teachings tell us that fear of external things is trivia to the fear of the true nature of the within. These fears often reveal the true nature of the inner being of the speaker and especially of someone who makes a comment such as "the problem of immigration".

  • Comment number 20.

Big Society = Big PR Con

  • Comment number 21.

Jackturk - oh dear how dare the right hold a view. Tonight is a refreshing change from listening to leftie drivel

  • Comment number 22.

I'm very interested in the US government's interest in BP as a company and their backing of a take-over by an American company in recent weeks. We are all shocked by the survival of El-Magrahi to a certain extent but to be honest that's not too surprising when we look at it now. But what is going on with the US government dragging BP into the argument? It seems that BP may have lobbied the government, but this is not enough to free a man convicted of such a crime. What I don't know is if an American company buys BP how much revenue does the US government gain from the purchase and how much does the UK goverment lose? I'm sure many people understand a lot more than I do but I am just interested in the figures of loss to UK and gain to US?

  • Comment number 23.

The refusing to build new schools to replace run down schools anywhere in the country is altogether wrong! also to pay in full for security systems for certain schools as Michael Gove is doing, is totally wrong, if one school has it then all schools should qualify if the need is there. Michael Gove's 'school report' should have MUST DO BETTER!!

  • Comment number 24.

Damian Green and the conservatives have absolutely no aspirations for the UK - how many times were the word CUTS used in one programme - have we given up hope for the country

  • Comment number 25.

Ban the Burqa. It is merely a method of insecure Muslim men controlling the females they own.

  • Comment number 26.

With cost savings etc... how much did the current government spend on on the Big Society logo?

  • Comment number 27.

i do understand why this topic is an issue. yes we can'nt tell people what to wear but as a democratic society i will want to see who is talking to me

  • Comment number 28.

It is terrible that some folk in this country should be allowed to cover their faces. How do we know who they are?

  • Comment number 29.

There is a growing sub culture in GB, it is uneducated, amoral and lives a feral existance. How can we bring these people back into our society

  • Comment number 30.

To Damian Green - a terrorist got out of the country wearing a Burka!

  • Comment number 31.

    How pathetic!

I find myself liking Bob Crow most tonight, Damian Green is pretty poor, Sadiq Khan is ridiculous - did 13 years mean nothing? Typical pathetic politician just point and blame and spout nonsense. And why is it these individuals think that they are the most right when there is an audience sitting there full of informed opinion? Nigel Farage is happy to add his pointing as he has little value full stop. Ruth Lea has odd opinions and i'm not sure what she adds. Overall, this is a poor episode and i'm starting to dislike politicians and 'spin' and pathetically playing to us trying to court our support - get some backbone!!!

  • Comment number 32.

Damian Green is constantly treading on egg shells. If 67% of persons polled say ban the Burqa, then the government should listen,
    .

  • Comment number 33.

Damian Green is not the only person in power who wants to keep the burka, the same people want to keep single faith schools too.
these very powerful people dont want us to come together as one.

    Peace

  • Comment number 34.

I understood that the burkha was to protect women from men, cos men would get sexually inflamed at the sight of women`s faces(that`s muslim men in very hot countries). It`s actually an insult to men!

  • Comment number 35.

What is the view of Damien Green allowing would be terrorists who threaten the British way of life, the values and fairness and equality - all Britain stands for and yet genuine asylum seekers from Zimbabwe, people who pose no threat to society over here and they get turned away!

  • Comment number 36.

Bob Crowe with his large salary should not be throwing stones from his own glass house!

  • Comment number 37.

MPs on program said women can wear or not wear what they want in our free British society: Lady Godiva today would be arrested wouldn't she? Teenagers are banned from shopping centres for hoodies (although the PM will later hug them if a camera is about)

  • Comment number 38.

How can Bob Crow seriously equate the current financial state of this country with that of 1945? Please can someone ask him to clarify?

  • Comment number 39.

That "very expensive £50m IT fund" that is being used is what's paying for school broadband and web filtering, amongst other things. It's only the 1st cut of the harnessing technology grant - another £50m was quietly cut in the BSF announcement. Isn't the internet important? Are schools supposed to abandon the internet, and all it's resources? And this is an 'in year' cut, so some schools are having to repay it to the local authority - what was that about no cuts to front line services?

  • Comment number 40.

The elderly gentleman is correct, youngsters are being given ASBOs for wearing hoodies.

  • Comment number 41.

Genuine question: lot of talk about women being allowed to wear burqas if they wish. But how much of it is actually the woman's choice or how much is it forced on them by the male part of Muslim society?

  • Comment number 42.

I believe that as a respectful member of the United Kingdom, when I visit other countries, I follow their religions and respect them.
Ie, I cover up when visiting mosques and places of religious importance.
If you are brought up in a country where you must wear the birka, then surely if you visit the United Kingdom you should respect our views on religion? Or rather, not religion, but that we may not walk around with our faces covered.
My friend made a very valid point.
She is a muslim, whose parents are of Pakistani descent and she made the point of saying:
"My parents chose to bring me up in the United Kingdom for a 'better life'. In doing so, I am still a devout muslim. I do not drink, I do not smoke and I certainly do not do drugs. I read the Koran every night before bed, but because they have brought me up in the United Kingdom, they must understand that I am a British Citizen and can not possibly live by a Pakistani way of life."

  • Comment number 43.

Would we ban the wearing of tee shirts which are racially offensive, the wearing of the Burqa is a matter of security against terrorism.

  • Comment number 45.

If we have to have the Burka does it really have to be black, can Burka's not be a little more colourful

  • Comment number 46.

Is the wearing of a burka a symbol of female oppression or not? If it is why is Damien Green advocating it for Britain?

  • Comment number 47.

Alex Salmond does NOT have to answer to the US on their decision!

  • Comment number 48.

Oh well, the time it takes for comments to appear here proves the lack of fairness and free speech, especially on OUR publicly owned site

  • Comment number 49.

So, can I walk around topless in a Muslim country..... as A freedom of choice as a woman?!?!

  • Comment number 50.

The expensive IT budget that Damien Green refers to (aka a low priority IT budget according to Michael Gove!) is called the Harnessing Technology budget and it helps schools pay for new IT equipment and services. In the last month the government has taken 50% of this budget from schools. In IT terms this is a massive backwards step!!

  • Comment number 51.

Teenagers and young children are prevented from wearing hoodies in the streets and in shopping centre's, how then can it be that women who wear the Burka either by choice or by force go unchallened? As a woman, I feel afraid of going into a public toilet where people in Burka's are present - who is to say that it is a woman under all that material?

The wearing of the Burka is not a matter of religion either as there is nowhere in muslim religious teaching that states that women must wear this type of covering. The Burka is instead a symbol of female oppression by a male dominated society and as such has no place on the streets in Britain

  • Comment number 52.

France is NOT banning the burkha, it is banning ALL face covering, including balaclavas, scarves and apparently even wedding veils in public places. It is the press who have latched onto the burkha issue. Also, a burkha is a specific item of clothing worn in Afghanistan and certain areas of Pakistan and Northern India. Can we at least get the name right?

  • Comment number 53.

Scotland does NOT have to answer to US re a decision they made!

  • Comment number 56.

What harm does wearing a Bhurka do to anyone? Why can't we just let people observe their faith how they choose? Nigel Farage demands equality yet every point he makes illustrates his total lack of comprehension as to what equality is. Wouldn't a ban on the Bhurka be an act of religious discrimination?

  • Comment number 57.

I do not understand why Cameron should explain, Brown (whoops sorry I mean Salmond) is answerable for the Lockerbie terrorist release. I am sure that BP did lobby the government but the decision was not BPs, Ruth Lea got it absolutely right.

Two faced view by the panel, regarding the release of the Libyan bomber, as it merely followed the precedent set by the release (on medical grounds) of General Pinochet.

General Pinochet was released by the British Goverment on medical grounds in 2000 and didn't have to face charges against him, before being hurriedly flown out of the country.

He made a miraculous recovery by the time his plane landed at it's destination and lived for at least another 6 six years.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Pinochet Arrest and trial in Britain
Main article: Augusto Pinochet's arrest and trial
The case was a watershed event in judicial history, as it was the first time that a former government head was arrested on the principle of universal jurisdiction.[53]

After having been placed under house arrest in Britain and initiating a judicial and public relations battle, the latter run by Thatcherite political operative Patrick Robertson,[54] he was eventually released in March 2000 on medical grounds by the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Secretary Jack Straw without facing trial.[55]

arn't you getting bored with the burka question? who cares? if females Islamists want to wear it so be it................security arrangements can be discretly made in airports etc, so whats the big deal??? David Dimbilbob said that a woman once worked on Question time who wore a burka................I wonder why she doesn't work there now? maybe her face didn't fit lol.............c'mon guys move on, let poeple wear what they want!

How arrogant Ruth thingy is! It is no business of UK G'ment what decision our Scottish G'ment made e Maghahi. End of story!

  • Comment number 63.

I think the burka should be banned, I think that the overall % of British people in support of the burka ban would be a lot higher than 66%

  • Comment number 64.

Having been convicted on what many, including some families of the victims, would say was flawed evidence in his trial, Megrahi was released from prison on compassionate grounds because of his terminal cancer, thereby triggering a massive and vitriolic outcry from many in the USA who seem to want vengeance rather than the truth. Yet two men, Bush and Blair, who without any doubt whatsoever have caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, are living a life of luxury and comfort in the USA with hardly a word said against them! Where are the major newspapers, media outlets and politicians campaigning to bring Bush and Blair to justice? we either don't hear about them or they don't exist, because the same corporate greed that brought us the banking crisis and the recession protects them.

  • Comment number 65.

The Tory spin about the economy forgets that we have just experienced the worst Global downturn since the 1930s. We have had to use vast amounts of money to bail out the bankers and ensure that when the public go to the cash point, money actually comes out.

Bob Crowe was correct to compare the situation with that in 1945 where we were badly in debt, but it was important to rebuild the country and ensure the troops came back to jobs - we only paid off the debt from that war in the last decade.

We recently faced a possible Global economic meltdown and have also been at war for nearly a decade which has also been costly in both money and lives. Would the new Government prefer that less money was spent on updating Armoured vehicles for the troops? Tory spin makes out the global economic conditions have been benign and we have been at peace.

The solution is to grow the economy in order to reduce unemployment and that will reduce the deficit. When the economy is stronger we can make cutbacks without unemployment exploding. A vicious campaign of cutbacks now will just put hundreds of thousands on the dole.

Ian Tomlison case - yes, it is a cover-up. The police are above the law

  • Comment number 68.

In question to the debate about the burqa, I think we can see a clear lack of religious education by our politicians. One needs to remember, sikh people are allowed to carry a Kirpan (sword) as its a religious duty to do so. We cannot cheapen the debate by saying some youth carrying a samurai sword are stopped by police. Clearly there is a ddistinction between a law abiding religious sikh person and someone carrying a samurai sword into a bank. In the same way jewish married women, wear wigs. Before you begin joining the flavour of the month ie ban the burqa think about what it means to wear it.. When you question empowering women, y don't they ask a women who wears one.

  • Comment number 69.

To Damien Green - Where does he stand on the deportations of failed Zimbabwean asylum seekers?

  • Comment number 70.

Crown Prosecution Service is an Independent body says Damien Green, how can it be independent when it receives it's funding directly from Government. Is Mr Green deliberately misleading the country?

  • Comment number 71.

I totally agree with a live and let live approach but also the when in Rome... I recently was at a theme park in Wales with my young children, they asked about the large group of people with men in Western clothes and women in Burkhas which I explained to them from the religious point of view, respecting their right to wear the burkha however, when they wanted to take part in a particular ride which involved taking off their burkha I could not justify it to them and it de-valued the entire argument on which I had defended them in the first place. If you can take it off to take part in a leisure activity it suggests you do not need to wear it in the first place.

  • Comment number 72.

While it would be heavy handed to make the Burka illegal. It should be made clear that there is no possibility of action against any person or organisation (public or private) for discrimination, when that party refuses to acknowlege or provide service to a person because they have their face covered. For example a shop, bus or even town hall refusing admission to anyone with their face covered.

  • Comment number 73.

Does Ruth Lea not realise that the scottish government and the british government are the part of the same government what she should have said was English and Scottish

  • Comment number 74.

Why should you argue about weather someone can wear a burka or not. We live in a free speech state so is banning the burka not taking that away? Well even if it is an issue then it is a pathetically small issue for some of the country's top politicians to argue about when we have a state in such disarray. People need to realise that cuts is what we need to talk about.

  • Comment number 75.

This is the conservatives way of carrying out immigration.. Get rid of economic migrants by increasing VAT cutting services..

Nice of the american lady in the audience tonight to pull the panelist to task for claiming that americans do not understand about our politics, and then show her ignorance by mentioning only 3 out the four nations involved in the makeup of the UK. Made worse by the fact that the one left out is the oldest and first inhabitants of this sceptered isle - the welsh!

  • Comment number 81.

I BELIEVE THAT THE BURKA DEBATE IS BEING APPROACHED FROM THE WRONG ANGLE, IT RELATES TO TRADITIONAL PRACTICES FOLLOWED BY MUSLIM WOMEN, IT HAS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THEM, IF I WAS A MUSLIM WOMAN I WOULD WEIGH THE ADVANTAGES AGAINST DISADVANTAGES FOR ALL MY MUSLIM SISTERS ALL OVER THE WORLD AND THEN MAKE A CHOICE.

AS MUCH AS I MAY VALUE IT, WOULD DISCARDING IT AS A PROTEST MAKE THE MUSLIM LEADERS REALISE THAT WOMEN HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS AND CANNOT BE CLASSED AS A POSSESSION OR SECOND CLASS CITIZEN. THIS IS A DECISION FOR MUSLIM WOMEN ONLY.

RECENTLY THERE WAS A PUBLIC OUTCRY OVER THE STONING ISSUE OF A WOMAN IN IRAN FOR ADULTERY, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MAN INVOLVED, MY MUSLIM SISTERS NEED TO THINK OF THE PLIGHT OF THEIR SISTERS IN COUNTRIES WHERE THEY PRACTISE SUCH ANCIENT TRADITIONAL RITUALS. FREEING ANYONE FROM OPRESSION IF IT IS WITHIN THEIR POWER IS THEIR DUTY TO HUMANITY.

  • Comment number 82.

Completely agree with Damien Green's comments on the Burkha and the un-Brithish nature of intefering with people's personal choice of clothing.

  • Comment number 83.

If the Americans have a problem with the release of the Lockerbie bomber surely they should come to the UK to investigate the issue rather than expecting one of us to travel to the USA

  • Comment number 84.

Ruth Lea is factually incorrect regarding El-Magrahi's release. The Scottish Government (Justice Secretary) followed the 1993 Prison Act (Scotland) as all other previous post holders. It has been widely stated in the 'media' that if the medical history states a person has 3 months or less to live they should be recommended for release on compassionate grounds. Looks like a decision taken based on legislation. Any way justice is a devolved power, and I would be quite astonished, given the previous UK governments relationship with the SNP Scottish government,if their decision was influenced by other factors.

  • Comment number 85.

I think tonights question time covered off human rights for women of all nationalities and it should be a womans choice to wear clothing that is to their style/religion/faith and I do believe this should not be dictated too.

I feel we are a very accommodating country for all nationalities and do don't judge or discriminate peoples faith or religion.

However when we go on holiday to Muslim countries (Dubai/Qatar/etc) we are discrimated against for our faith and religion and thrown in jail for holding hands or just kissing some on the cheek when we great someone.

  • Comment number 86.

The most disgraceful part of question time was Damian Green defending the police over the death of Ian Tomlinson, I'm sure if Damian Green had died when his office was raided during the last governements tenure both the conservatives and his family would have been equally supportive of a no charge situation.
Today it appears you can put on a police uniform and kill someone with impunity, rather a shame as in the main the police do a good job in difficult circumstances a few rotten apples spoiling the barrel.

  • Comment number 87.

Damian Green says he can understand how Ian Tomlinson's family feel 'annoyed'. Does he not realise that the whole country find this an outrage and are sickened by it?

  • Comment number 88.

You should have had someone representing the SNP, as they are being criticized on the program, so they can defend themselves.

  • Comment number 89.

Bob Crow was bang on about the way the police are getting away with killing Ian Tomlison. There being at least 1000 people died in police custody and not one conviction, why has this never being look into ?

The lady economist on tonight's programme seemed concerned about the alleged Lockerbie bomber's transfer to Libya on health grounds. She may be right to be concerned as he appears to be in reasonable health now he is back home. As she is an obvious right-wing panellist, I can't help wondering how concerned she was when Margaret Thatcher intervened to have Augusto Pinochet returned to Chile, on "health grounds". I seem to remember he made a miraculous recovery on his return home.

  • Comment number 92.

    BOB for PM!
How refreshing,to hear a man of conviction, with humanitarian balanced views, who speaks common sense - A rose amoung the thorns! (sorry David).
But seriously, at a time when the electorate feel increasingly dissolusioned with MP's of all parties, when pressure groups have more influence than MP's, when the views of the majority of voters are ignored - maybe it is time for Unions to rise and represent the majority.
    I'd vote for BOB tomorow!

The Burka debate centres around Muslim ladies dressing as they wish. I agree with freedom but can I ask why the freedoms of naturists are not respected? I cannot refuse to wear clothes without being imprisonned, why are my "rights" and "choices" not protected. They are enshrined in law in Spain, in England Stephen Gough has been detained indefinately and the only law that he has broken is the one that demands that he covers his genitals. Does anyone else question why freedoms are not equitable and fair?

Damian Green stumped any debate on banning the Burqa even though 67% of the country wants it banned.

Belgium,Spain,France and many more countries are using the democratic process of the MPs discussing for and aginst arguments in there Parliaments to ban the Burqa.

These countries MPs are always held accountable even after elections, its about time we held those elitists parasites accountable everyday.

As a middle aged woman I am outraged by muslim women being forced to wear a burqa. It is NOT a religious item of wear, it is Tribal, Cultural, and is a sign of being aloof from others, not integrating in society, of being Better than the British population.
I know a severely deaf man who works in a shop, he wears a hearing aid but needs to lip-read while trying to hear, how on earth would he be able to interpret a burqa clad muslim woman in his shop. She stands there speaking at him, and getting angry because he is "ignoring" what she is trying to say.
Just for once I would like to see the Question Time panel and the whole audience wear a burqa just to show how stupid it all is.

Wearing the Burqa is a Political statement, and if things do not change then 20 years from now all women in the country will be wearing a burqa whether we like it or not!

67% want the Burka banned - Listen to the people of the UK!!
'Although western women are not expected to dress likewise, women travelling or living in Muslim countries should dress conservatively as a MARK OF RESPECT for the host country's religion, customs and beliefs. Except for Iran where there are LAWS that dictate that foreign women have to be covered up. When visiting NON-Western areas, foreign women's legs and arms should be covered with loose, non-hugging clothing. Rules are often more rigid in mosques and holy places. You will not be allowed to enter if you are not dressed appropriately'.
TAKE A LEAF OUT OF THE MUSLIM RULES AND IDEALS BOOK AND APPLY THE SAME HERE IN THE UK - BAN THE BURKA!
This is a predominently Christian country and we have the right to command the same RESPECT for our religion, customs and beliefs. Stop playing the 'Race' card, it is about RESPECT!!
Ask yourself this question - 'If I were to build Christian / Catholic churches in almost every suburb in a predominently Muslim country, would it be allowed or accepted?!?!
It's time to stop being complacent.

It is a bit of a cheek America to talk about "lobbying" being used to achieve politcal or business objectives. A coutry were lobbying is constantly done to help greedy oil companies or bankers who then hold governments to ransom.

I would also like to comment on Bob Crow and his stupid remarks on the recession. The Bankers did not cause the recession, it was stupid socialist policies of the Clinton Administration in the USA that started the ball rolling by forcing banks & mortgage companies to give mortgages to people who could not afford them. That was the start, the banks then helped it along by selling these duff mortgages around the world and things started to totter.
However, in this country, with too many people living on borrowed money and having too much credit and with a lunatic chancellor who had no idea what he was doing we now find ourselves in our present state.
Mr Crow, it was not Just the Bankers, It was STUPID Socialism that started it all off in the first place.!
