The team on top Radio Scotland gardening show Beechgrove Potting Shed will be helping out with questions send in about growing the Dig In veg in Scottish conditions. If you've got a question for them, send it in using the question form. Here's their first answer.

Sarah from just outside Jedburgh asks: "I've been told that it is impossible to grow courgettes, any beans and lettuce where I am in Scotland. So I tried any way! Unfortunately none of them survived the wind chill. Is it possible to grow these veg in my area?"

Answer: Sarah should be able to grow her vegetables in Jedburgh, provided she gives them

some protection at the start. That means growing in a greenhouse, using a cloche or covering them in fleece.

However, there is an important point to remember when it comes to lettuce - it does not like to be transplanted.  So a tip would be to start them off in an old guttering pipe (about 1m long) in the greenhouse.  Then, when it is time to move the lettuce outside, you dig a trench in your garden the same width and height as the guttering pipe and just slide the plants into the trench.
