My Davos Moment

I've asked a few of the participants at this year's World Economic Forum to tell me about their "Davos Moment", the things that are making this event special to them.

First off the block is Gillian Caldwell, chief executive of , a social enterprise that supports human rights groups around the world to make video documentaries. These films are powerful tools to help their cause, and in several cases have changed government policy. The rockstar is one of the biggest backers of Witness, and they do a lot of good work.

Over to you Gillian:

My Davos Moment thus far took place at the Schwab Summit in Zurich immediately beforehand. Paolo Coelho, the bestselling Brazilian author and a member of the Schwab Foundation, had a closing address on storytelling.

He is a poet at heart so I always look forward to what he has to say. He talked about dreams as mountains, and said we must all choose the mountain we will climb. There are so many and each person has their own decision to make. As we approach the mountain we will realize others have tried to climb it before and we may get discouraged, but we must press on.

Dangers that look too daunting from a distance are more manageable close up - a steep crevasse, a slippery rock face. Take one step at a time. Don't forget to enjoy the scenery along the way. We get so obsessed with getting to the top that its easy to forget to notice the beauty and the precious moments along the way.

Take your time, respect your soul and your body. Be prepared to walk an extra mile. Sometimes the summit looks just within reach, but it is almost always further away that it appears.

When you reach your mountain top, don't forget to laugh and cry and celebrate. Enjoy the view. Rest for a moment in the mist. And then, tell your story.

The most important part of your process is the journey and the story that inspires others to climb their own mountain.
