Steve Saul | 12:35 UK time, Thursday, 31 March 2011

Still recovering from Pete's little indiscretion in the last series of Outnumbered? Us too. Good news. It'll all be put in the past when The Brockmans return in Series 4...

Outnumbered - the award-winning comedy series that captures the family life at its most deliciously chaotic - is back in production for 成人快手 One with a new six-part series and a Christmas special.

This year the Brockmans are confronted by an array of challenges in the shape of death, drugs, terrorism, getting old, food science, Top Gear, the joy of ventriloquism and the perils of Subbuteo.

We'll post the Series 4 broadcast dates here as soon as we know them.

In the meantime, enjoy the 2011 Red Nose Day special that saw tennis pro Andy Murray get a Brockman grilling from Ben, Jake, Karen and Pete.

Writer Adrian Poynton talks about writing Dream Project #1 on the 成人快手 Three Blog...

"I had two dreams as a child:

  • To write a TV comedy series.
  • To write an episode of Doctor Who.

Apparently, I've just done 50% of that. Yikes."

Steven Moffat... are you reading this? If so give Adrian that call. Make his dream come true.

After all, there are clear similarities between The Doctor and White Van Man.

They both travel across time and space in a small box, they both help people in times of emergency and they both know how to avoid the wrong end of a plunger.

*drumroll*

If you're a White Van Man Fan, check out Adrian's blog. It's a fascinating insight into just how long it takes to getting a sitcom made and how much heart and soul goes into every single draft.

Mrs. Brown's Boys returns for a second series!

Post categories: ,听,听

Jaine Sykes Jaine Sykes | 14:01 UK time, Tuesday, 22 March 2011

Good news for all fans of our favourite Irish matriarch from the 成人快手 Press Office...

成人快手 One's hit comedy Mrs. Brown's Boys has been recommissioned for a second series by Danny Cohen, Controller, 成人快手 One, and Cheryl Taylor, Controller, Comedy Commissioning.

View the full blog post to access video content. In order to see this content you need to have both Javascript enabled and Flash installed. Visit 成人快手 Webwise for full instructions

The series was based on the sell-out theatre show which is written by and stars Brendan O'Carroll as Agnes Brown, a Dublin matriarch who just can't resist interfering in the lives of her family and friends.

The cast of the television show features the regular cast of Mrs. Brown's Boys on stage, and includes Brendan's real-life wife Jennifer Gibney as Cathy, his daughter Fiona O'Carroll as Maria, his son Danny O'Carroll as Buster, and his sister Eilish O'Carroll as Winnie McGoogan. Here's Brendan to introduce us to the Brown family.

Responding to the news of the recommission Brendan said: "This is unbelievable! I'm just thrilled that the 成人快手 continues to have confidence in the show. The support we have had from all involved from Danny Cohen and Mark Freeland and 成人快手 Scotland makes us just so excited to get back there and do it all again. Producer Stephen McCrum promised me that he would be faithful to the stage show and he has gone beyond this in making the show the success it is. I am living the dream."

Cheryl Taylor, Controller, Comedy Commissioning said: "Despite the rarefied language, the warmth of this series and the laugh out loud comedy antics have proved a huge hit with 成人快手 One viewers."

Mrs. Brown's proved a big hit online as well as on the small screen. We've loved having her on-hand to answer viewers' questions for #AskMrsBrown throughout the series here on our Comedy Blog.

She's solved many dilemmas including how to hide a moustache and how to come out to your mammy.

Look out next week as Mrs. Brown will be back with a final message for all the mammys in time for Mother's Day.

Mrs. Brown's Boys is a 成人快手 Vision Production, co-produced with BOCPIX and RTE. The series is produced by Stephen McCrum & executive produced by Mark Freeland. The series is directed by Ben Kellett. The executive producer for RTE is Justin Healy.

The new series will return to 成人快手 One later this year.

Twenty Twelve: London landmarks as Olympic venues

Post categories: ,听

Jaine Sykes Jaine Sykes | 11:03 UK time, Monday, 21 March 2011

The Twenty Twelve offices have been inundated with several letters wanting to know how the decision over which landmarks to use at the London Olympics听was reached.

In order to illuminate this difficult process, the Twenty Twelve team have compiled a brief rundown of the other landmark venues that, unfortunately, had to be dropped from the games itinerary.

River Thames - Tennis

Tennis on the River Thames

Ian explains...

Ian Fletcher
One of the mayor's big worries for 2012 was that city employees might shirk their jobs to watch the games.

As a result, it was felt that a venue which floated along the Thames, passing many large corporate offices, would be good way to encourage productivity - bringing the mountain to Mohammed, so to speak (NB: can someone please check if it's OK to say that?). Tennis seemed like an ideal 'raft sport' as the river would also categorically settle any disputes as to whether or not the ball was 'out'.

However after a feasibility study, in which one of the assessors unfortunately drowned, it was decided to opt for more traditional venues such as Wimbledon, Queens and, if needs be, Hounslow Leisure centre, pending rescheduling of the over 60's badminton (any word on that yet Graham?)

London Eye - Archery

Archery on the London Eye

Siobhan explains...

Siobhan Sharpe
Here at Perfect Curve we strongly felt that using the London Eye as an archery target would provide the games with a truly iconic image - a 'poster boy' (or girl) for 2012.

Sadly the size of 'the eye' meant that a traditional target would have to be ever-so-slightly slightly 'scaled up', which apparently caused problems for the sport's ruling body. I suggested that the target could be made to appear the correct size by placing the archers further away - in Shepherd's Bush for example. However, this additional distance would, I was told, require the introduction of some sort of power assisted bows, which some felt would tread on the toes of the shooting events

Anyway, the issue caused a potentially lethal disagreement between the archers and the marksmen, so the idea was dropped. Shame if you ask me, but no one has.

Tower Bridge - BMX

BMXing on Tower Bridge

Graham explains...

Graham Hitchins
As Head of Infrastructure (roads and that) I was very excited to see this proposal cross my desk, as it utilised not only a world famous landmark, but also a really good bit of road.

Tower Bridge seemed like an obvious choice for inclusion on the BMX circuit, as the bridge mechanism provides an exciting 'jump' with an angle which could be scaled to individual skill levels so as to minimise casualties.

However, the jobsworths at the Port of London Authority launched an appeal stating that the BMX circuit posed a danger to shipping. In the event they lost this appeal, but went on to win a subsequent appeal stating that shipping posed a danger to BMXs.

A counter-appeal is pending, if I remembered to submit the paperwork, which, now I think about it, I may not have.

City Airport - 1500 metres

1,500 Metres at City Airport

Ian explains...

Ian Fletcher
The inspiration for this idea came when I learnt that the '1500 metres' event has, apparently, never been run in a straight line purely because this would require 'something like an airport runway'.

Luckily, London has something like an airport runway, at City Airport, which is something like an airport, thus the proposal pictured above.

Unfortunately it transpired that the runway is only 1319 metres in length, which the International Olympics Committee felt was was 'too short' for the 1500 metres. My suggestion that we instead used the venue for the 800 metres event instead was then rejected by our own Cost and Efficiency Department for 'wasting 519 metres'. These issues, compounded by the fact that the airport refused to cancel any incoming flights, made this proposal both logistically problematic and hugely difficult to timetable.

Twenty Twelve's London Landmarks was written by Larry Rickard.

Stand Up For Comic Relief: The winner is...

Jaine Sykes Jaine Sykes | 17:28 UK time, Friday, 18 March 2011

Over the past ten days, radio presenters from across the 成人快手 have been nervously biting their nails in anticipation of the Stand Up For Comic Relief winner being announced.

Those taking part this year were Radio 1's Dev, Tony Blackburn from Radio 2, Tom Service from Radio 3, Jenni Murray from Radio 4, Tony Livesey from 5 live and Shaun Keaveny from 6 Music.

The six willing presenters showcased their three-minute stand-up routine in front of a live studio audience and have been vying for the votes of listeners at home.

The moment of truth came at 5.28pm this afternoon when, for the first time, all radio networks came together for a simulcast to announce the winner.

And the 成人快手 Comedy Blog can now reveal the winner of Stand Up For Comic Relief 2011 is...

Jenni Murray!

During her set, Jenni tackled such topics as targeting younger Radio 4 listeners, female-only plane staff, and... Jeremy Clarkson's favourite car?! Watch Jenni's winning stand-up routine below.

The Woman's Hour presenter faced the audience at the Comedy Store in London, and was mentored by comedian Mark Steel.

Mark said, "Jenni's been a delight... whenever you've been listening to her on Woman's Hour, you must be aware that no matter how serious the subject, underneath there's a huge cauldron of bubbling stand-up mirth."

Congratulations to all the radio presenters who took part and thank you to all of you who donated towards the fundraising effort. You can still watch all the stand-up routines here.

Leaked Emails: Twenty Twelve's 'clock-up'

Post categories: ,听

Jaine Sykes Jaine Sykes | 12:59 UK time, Wednesday, 16 March 2011

Twenty Twelve Clock

If you watched Twenty Twelve on Monday night, you will have seen the fictional Olympic clock breaking down.

Well, it might've felt like a case of strife imitating art when the real Olympic clock conked out less than 24 hours after being unveiled this week. People often say, 'you couldn't write it,' but John Morton did. Spooky!

How did our Twenty Twelve Olympic Deliverance Committee deal with the crisis? Emails. Lots of emails...

From: Ian Fletcher
To: Nick Jowett; Graham Hitchins; Kay Hope; Siobhan Sharpe
Subject: Twenty Twelve clock

So, '500 day day' has presented us with an exciting challenge, insofar as that the 2012 countdown clock has apparently stopped working. Does anyone know who our maintenance partners are for this sort of thing?

From: Graham Hitchins
To: Ian Fletcher; Nick Jowett; Kay Hope; Siobhan Sharpe
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day.

From: Ian Fletcher
To: Graham Hitchins; Nick Jowett; Kay Hope; Siobhan Sharpe
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

Thanks for that incredibly helpful platitude, Graham. However, since this particular clock counts down to the 2012 Olympics and it has stopped on '500 days, 7 hours six minutes and 56 seconds', which is several hours ago, it will, in fact, never 'tell the right time' ever again.

From: Nick Jowett
To: Ian Fletcher; Graham Hitchins; Kay Hope; Siobhan Sharpe
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

Of course a 'stopped' 24 HOUR clock would only tell the right time once a day. That's just one of the reasons I refuse to use them.

From: Ian Fletcher
To: Nick Jowett; Graham Hitchins; Kay Hope; Siobhan Sharpe
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

OK - New rule. Only respond to emails if you actually have something productive to bring to the table.

From: Graham Hitchins
To: Ian Fletcher; Nick Jowett; Kay Hope; Siobhan Sharpe
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

I could bring a new clock to the table - there's one in my desk drawer. LOL

From: Ian Fletcher
To: Graham Hitchins; Nick Jowett; Kay Hope; Siobhan Sharpe
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

Graham, that's precisely the sort of thing I'm talking about.

From: Siobhan Sharpe
To: Ian Fletcher; Graham Hitchins; Nick Jowett; Kay Hope
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

I think there's a way to spin this. Could we not say that the clock is designed to stop periodically to remind us that, in any race, it is important to pause and refocus our energies before continuing with renewed vigour?

From: Ian Fletcher
To: Siobhan Sharpe; Graham Hitchins; Nick Jowett; Kay Hope
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

Thanks for your input Siobhan, but I'm not sure that the idea of pausing mid-race is entirely compatible with the traditional image of Olympics sports. I'm pretty sure Colin Jackson never did that.

From: Siobhan Sharpe
To: Ian Fletcher; Graham Hitchins; Nick Jowett; Kay Hope
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

Who's Colin Jackson?

From: Ian Fletcher
To: Siobhan Sharpe; Graham Hitchins; Nick Jowett; Kay Hope
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

So, apparently the clock has started working again. Thank you all for what I will loosely call your help.

From: Nick Jowett
To: Ian Fletcher; Siobhan Sharpe; Graham Hitchins; Kay Hope
Subject: RE: Twenty Twelve clock

See. Like I always say - if you ignore a problem long enough it usually goes away.

From: Ian Fletcher

A simple glance at the names on my phone's extension list tells me otherwise. Good night.

Misery Bear made a video for Comic Relief and this is the furry little fella's diary of what happened on the shoot...

5am: Alarm call. The guys at Comic Relief and the 成人快手 had promised me a cab, but then it turned out that it would be too expensive, so they asked me to get a bus.

It鈥檚 quite a long journey from where I live to where the shoot was, so it actually ended up being three different buses.

On one of them, a drunk man sat next to me and told me he was going to eat me. I lost my travel card on the second bus, so I had to pay again for the third bus. Maybe the drunk man stole it. He was mean. And who drinks at six in the morning? Not even I do that.

8am: On set. Turns out I wasn鈥檛 needed till 10am, so I needn鈥檛 have got such an early start. So yeah, I end up milling around on my own for two hours while the idiots who make these films with me set up all the stuff. Still, I managed to sneak a bacon roll for my breakfast. Also smoked about nine fags.

10:30am: My co-star arrives. I hadn鈥檛 met Kate Moss before and I have to admit I was a little bit nervous. I never miss an issue of Vogue, so to have the privilege of working with a girl who鈥檚 graced the cover more times than I care to remember, well鈥 I was honoured, I can tell you.

And you know what? We got on. We were both a bit wary around each other for the first couple of scenes. I鈥檝e acted many times in the past so I could tell Kate was a little wary of making a faux-paw in front of me, but she held her own very well, and as soon as we got our groove things went swimmingly. Although Nat and Chris were very unprofessional 鈥 they kept giggling and blushing like schoolboys as soon as she got there.

12pm: After our tenth cigarette break, Kate and I decided that it would be a good idea to crack open some of the booze that was being used for props on the shoot. We both share a fondness for fine wine and spirits, and soon we were clinking glasses as we performed our roles.

Richard Curtis, who people tell me is an important man but I hadn鈥檛 heard of him, popped in to see how the shoot was going. In a lull between takes, Mr Curtis took me to one side and called me "deeply unprofessional" and "stupid" for drinking on set. I felt a bit humiliated, and I couldn鈥檛 help but notice he didn鈥檛 tell Kate off too.

2pm: Despite mine and Kate鈥檚 amazing performances, the directors continually failed to get the shots we needed for this important short film.

I mentioned to Jon, the producer, that they were probably not the best people to use, considering how important Comic Relief is and that we鈥檙e trying to raise money here. He agreed but said it was too late to fire Chris and Nat. Also, in between takes I tried to get a look down Kate鈥檚 top and she caught me looking. But it was okay, she didn鈥檛 seem to mind.

11pm: Not quite sure what happened in between, but we wrapped the shoot at 3pm, went for 鈥渁 quick drink鈥 to celebrate it, and next thing I know it鈥檚 kicking out time, Kate鈥檚 clambering into a taxi and a paparazzi man is taking a photo of me as I鈥檓 vomiting in the gutter.

Really no clue what happened in the afternoon, and I can only assume I was sick from food poisoning, or stress. Not sure if I tried to kiss Kate or not while we were out celebrating. Hope I didn鈥檛. I know she鈥檚 getting married soon and I don鈥檛 want to get in the way of her happiness, but it would have been nice to have a quick snog.

I did get a text from her at 2am though. It just said "although I loved working with you, little bear, please never contact me again."

Hmmm, maybe I did go for that snog鈥

Mr Walliams delivered a tour-de-force performance as host, team captain and guest on a non-stop web broadcast of seemingly never-ending panel shows.

"It was tough, yes, but it was the right side of tough," said the Come Fly With Me and Little Britain star.

"I mean if I was slumped on the desk not saying anything I think it really wouldn't have been very entertaining but you could see I was a little bit delirious towards the end."

Sorry, David. That really was Jedward on Celebrity Juice. You weren't hallucinating.

Walliams has previously swam the English Channel for , eventually raising more than one million pounds after training for nine months.

Comparing the marathon with that swim, Walliams said "with this I had a lot less sense of how it was going to work out because I really didn't know how I would be after staying awake for so long and also being on TV and trying to be entertaining - it is so different."

Well done David, you combined the cool of a David Blaine stunt with laughs of Come Fly With Me.

Bravo, dear boy... bravo!

QI Returns to 成人快手 Two

The setting sun is just a mirage, the oldest trick in the book is a goose decapitation, and 'not enough room to swing a cat' means exactly that - just a few of the things we've learnt from QI recently. And now the world's most challenging quiz is returning to 成人快手 Two for its ninth series, which starts in the autumn.

George Entwistle, the Acting Director of 成人快手 Vision says it will be "custom-built for a post watershed slot where I guess it might dare to be even more interesting." John Lloyd, creator and series producer says: "QI did very well in the ratings on 成人快手 One but we thought we ought to give Coronation Street a fighting chance. We're very happy to be back in our old den on 成人快手 Two."

Host Stephen Fry and regular panellist Alan Davies will both move along with it and will be joined each week by (mostly) willing guests who will try to answer impossibly difficult questions. Any "quite interesting" answer may get a point (whether right or wrong) and penalties will be imposed for obvious wrong answers."

According to those in the know, "life鈥檚 too short". It's too short to worry, too short to do anything slightly challenging, and certainly too short to have regrets, apart from the one massive ongoing regret about the shortness of life, which they never shut up about. It makes you wonder why these people bother doing anything. They might as well just make themselves comfortable and wait for the inevitable.

Fame. I'm gonna live forever. I'm gonna get my consciousness injected into a Hydrogen atom. Baby, remember my atomic weight. Yes, in the battle for immortality, science will always beat celebrity. For example, did you know there's enough carbon in a human body to make a diamond 鈥 or, if you're on a budget, a small pencil? A diamond is forever, but an Ikea pencil says "You can't take it with you. Actually, can you? No one is really sure what the rules are on this."

Science has achieved a lot in this field. Modern immortal Doctor Who uses his alien Timelord powers to regularly trick nerds into watching a kids' costume drama, and scientists have been artificially extending the lifespan of laboratory mice for decades. Some living rodents are now so old they can remember back to the very first time Russell Howard did his "little boy voice" on Mock the Week.

Cryonics is the science of freezing corpses until someone invents magic. The elderly are the most likely to undergo cryopreservation, partly because that's the age when people usually give up the ghost, and partly because they're always cold anyway. To an old person, the thought of all that meat going to waste is the only thing more alarming than a full-size bottle of ketchup. But remember that elderly subjects should always be taken outside before thawing, or they won't feel the benefit.

101 Things to do Before You Die will continue next week. In the meantime, why not leave your own suggestions in the comments below?
