From A To Bee And On To Ee minus...

Chris Evans | 13:03 UK time, Wednesday, 30 March 2011

It's not being wrong that concerns me.

It's where the whole bee story came from in my head. I wasn't slightly wrong, I was
science-fictionally wrong.

Most bees are girls - and they do all the work, there are a few drone boy bees and a royal jelly fed baby bee becomes the new queen.

I'm off to the book shop now, the Bernie Ecclestone biography is a right rip roaring read, but it's not furthering my knowledge of anything that actually matters.

    Good afternoon chief blogmeister

You are a busy bee ..... see what I dud there!

Me? I've just been to @rg0s and invested in a hula hoop. That'll show 'em!

And it's raining here. Apparently I have a hole in the sole of my boot. Gah!

It's a wet socks kind of afternoon. But only on the right foot.

OOh good luck with the hula hoop Deevs.

My GD can keep huling (?) for hours! I dont seem to be able to master it, although I can if its around my neck!! Which isn't really the point eh!

Have you got one of the water weighted ones?

    MTF.xx

  • Comment number 3.

Oooh no - I didn't know you could get water weighted ones. It's been endorsed by The Shouty One who used to present Big Brother on Eviction Nights ...... Apparently it's a heavier than average one for adult usage. I used to be quite good at it, but think it may take a while to get back into the hooping zone!

    x

  • Comment number 4.

It certainly knocked inches off the GDs waist. I'm afraid all it did to me as it was so heavy, was make me gag ;)

Yours must be a good one if it has been endorsed. I think the GD got hers from the good old wonder of Woollies, back in the day!!

Now that sounds good! I rad in a magazine that it doesn't matter how many sit-ups you do, or how much you tone your belly, the only way to get definition (a lady 6 pack?) is by losing the wobbly bits! Although I think the only way I will ever have a lady 6-pack is if I go to the offie and buy some beers in pink tins!

Deevs - good luck with the hula hoop. I'm afraid my only experience of hula hoops is the ones that you eat with a sarnie!!

My listener breaking news is that I've joined a gym - hurrah! It's got one of them power plate thingies that CLP used to rave about and as someone with a dodgy back, I thought I'd ease meself in gently by using that and the old treadmill etc. Wish me luck ......

    Hello Chris.

To bee or not to bee!

The boy bees are certainly a lazy bunch of b's leaving all the work to the girls.

A very large hornet bee flew through my door the other day during the warm spell but thankfully it went straight out again. I think it was a hornet (I must read up on bees).

Enjoy Bernie's book Chris, reading doesn't always have to be educational, it should be fun too.

Deevs-haven't read or heard any news today, off to do so immediately but Bingo emailed me early this morning and is leaving Hua Hin for one more night in Bangkok and then flies home tomorrow.

He sent some lovely photos, he appears to have swopped his truck for an elephant LOL!

I've had a look at the news and see that the flooding is further south at Ko Sumai, Hua Hin and Bangkok further north. I am very worried and will be relieved when Bingo is out of there. I think the airport is affected.

    Afternoon All,

I've been out and about this morning, so am finally catching up.

Chris, I did chuckle to myself this morning about the whole bee thing. I don't usually listen after 8:30 but because I was driving to an event, I got to hear more of the show. I can just imagine Lynn giving you a stare and you completely ignoring it! I can't believe she doesn't like honey, those of us who suffer from hay fever should be having our local made honey everyday to keep the pollen at bay when it eventually arrives.

I woke up at 3:20 this morning feeling like a truck had run over me. But I had to host an event this morning so there was no hanging about in bed for me. I still feel a little fragile, but the woozieness has abated and I can't wait to go home and relax. It's a diet of water and not much else for me today!

Baggy, I had to smile at your comment on the other blog, my middle name is Clare (and it's spelt that way too) xx I always think that if you are a teacher it must be very hard to name your children as you, more often than not, will associate names with kids you have taught.

MM, I bet you will be glad when Bingo is home xx I know that I worry my Mum when I'm off on my travels. She was beside herself when I went to Zimbabwe for a month, bless her.

Right this won't get the baby a new bonnet :)

Hi Chris: I take it, the bee thingy was discussed on the show this morning? I missed that: bums, as Annie would say! Hope you enjoyed the book shop - I LOVE browsing through a book shop. And, old Bernie, he's been a bit of a boy, eh? Should be an interesting read!

Maddy (previous blog #74): loved that - you are very funny! And good to hear about Bingo - sounds like his holiday has been terrific.

AS: hiya - nice to see you.

MC: just loving Mr MC's sense of humour! Honestly, that is the sort of thing MrS would say to me, too! and, thank you xx

kks: how is your week moving along? Hope it's all going well.

Jillygoat: well done on joining the gym. I was a dedicated gym-goer in my day. Oh, yes, even though it's hard to believe now! In no time you will start to feel great ... if I remember correctly!

    xx

  • Comment number 18.

I'm hoping the gym will transform me, but then again I didn't see any mention of miracles in the small print!!

I decided on this particular gym because you aren't tied to a contract and can stop at any time, although of course that's not going to do anyone any good! I've tried various fitness DVDs but I found I only tended to watch them whilst sitting on the sofa, which wasn't the point at all.

Anyhoo, I've no idea what the power plate is going to be like and if I get seasick Deevs, I'll just have to try something else. BUT, for me at least doing something is better than doing nothing, which is what's been happening for the last few years. I'll let you know how it goes!

Just watched Christoph on 'Fern' on the i-player and thought he did a good job. He really suits the dark blue and his hair looked pretty snazzy too.

    jillygoat xx

  • Comment number 19.

Maddy: I understand your concern, absolutely. Do you have Bingo's flight details? You can google the airport name, and departures, and you will see how things are shaping up. Always a terrible worry when something like this happens. xx

  • Comment number 20.

    Chrissie.

Thank you yes, I do know the flight time and details.

oWhat are we mothers like, we worry and panic.

The floods are nothing like the previous tsunami and they are further south, I think we now get more media coverage because of previous things. Also Bingo is very sensible and did book into a high rise hotel in Bangkok in case of anything. Anothedr thing is that I've had a few emails from him over the past week when the floods started, the last email being 4.55 our time this morning.

    Thank you Chrissie.

    Afternoon all

MM - I'm sure Bingo will be fine, but you wouldn't be his mum unless you worried!

Ali - I know what you mean about name association, before the GD was born we had immense trouble even getting a shortlist as the OH has done Brwonies and Guides for so long that certain names were a definite no go area.

We were still trying to sort the final choice out as we were in the labour room waiting for the action to start!

  • Comment number 25.

    Panic over!

I've just had an email reply from Bingo. He said "what flooding?" he's in his hotel and doesn't know of any flooding.

I wish that the media wouldn't do this sort of thing, they overdramatise things after a major event, if it hadn't been for the previous tsunamis it would probably have just been Thailand news.

Thanks lovely bloggers for your kind messages.

Maddy: I know, the worry is endless. I am sure everything will be alright, but just to put your mind at ease, have a look at the airport Bingo is due to depart from. Just had a word with my boss who has been to Thailand and he tells me it is coming up for 10.25 in the evening there now, so don't worry if you don't hear from Bingo, ok?!

MTF: good to see you popping in!

    Greetings CLP & ALL Bloggeroons...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

Ave just arrived back in Bangkok... ter do as the song says "One Night In Bangkok!!!!"
But ter be 'onest.... And sadly... am too tired ter go out... And a know a need alotta sleep tonight ready for me overnight flight back ter London tomorrow!!!!!!

Anyway.... ave turned on me computer first a see a worried e-mail from MM & then blog shinigans!!!!!!!!

And this is my whole point partly of observations i've made in the past two weeks in Thailand:
Sadlu us in the west & the UK.... we've all sort of turned into a country in a near state of 'anarchy'... of fear... sort of fed by the news, the media & so on!!!!!

Like i've written before on the blog... I beleive many problems in our wondeful country but sadly partly damaged society of Britain is caused by the media/ tabloids spreading daily misery about the UK... always saying we're the worst of such & such!!!!!

Some may say i'm doing this right now... maybe... but I 'ear people like David Cameron using terms like 'Broken Britain' and I see the agression & rudeness... and crime that seems to be all over Britain... I witness it especially being a trucker who travels alot around different areas/ class areas of the UK!!!!!!!

Parts of the UK are so different to others!!!!!!!

What i'm trying to say... yes there's been floods in Thialand... yes 15 people died... it's sad... but i'm in Thailand... and today I didn't see a drop of rain!!!!!!!
    I've had a pleasant day!!!!!!!!!!

It's like the situation in Japan... yes very, very sadly well over 10,000 people died recently.... but isn't it wonderful... that such a strong country that prepared for severe earthquakes.... that the other 127,000,000 (127 million) didn't die in the recent disaster!!!!!!!!!
Years ago such a bad earthquake would 'ave killed over a million.... INDEED nearly a million did die in Japan's worst earthquake around 100 'undred years ago!!!!!!!

I work with a truck driver who is from Iraq... very nice bloke... who sadly fled the country due to the recent war!!!!!!
Now the news would 'ave us beleive life in Iraq is terrible... but from what my fellow collegue tells me... it's not!!!!!!!
'e 'as told me crime is worse in the UK!!!!!
In Iraq you can leave a laptop on your rear car seat & nobody will smash your car window to steal it... yet in the UK... there's a 'igh chance your ca rwould be broekn into... then th epolice who are too busy collectiing money from motorists... would probably be too busy to 'elp you properly with your stolen laptop!!!!!!

My point 'er eis sadly Britan is a mess.... i've seen in Thailand... the resoect in society.... i'm amazed at 'ow people elave valuables on display... like in shopping centres... becasue nobody will steal them!!!!!!
The police just get on with doing there stuff... none of like what you see in the UK... with these roadside checks 'aving a go at motorists etc!!!!!!

Today... I even witnessed a couple of elephants next to the busy main road being riden like 'orses... nobody batting an eyelid!!!!!!

If that wa sthe UK... the armed police would be called & there's a 'igh chance it would end with the aniumals being destroyed... or atleast sedated!!!!!

In Thailand there's no road rage... even though people drive crazy... they do it in a respectful way... and i've seen no road accidents & no emergency vehicles flying around like you see in the UK!!!!!!!

Being out 'ere... is making me realise... really we 'umans to a degree are still part of the animal kingdom... and we are 'appier leading a more simple life!!!!!!!
But in the UK... chasing money & being conditioned by 'ealth & safety rules gone crazy..... a fast becoming more robotic society... it is causeing society to break down!!!!!!!

It's so nice 'er ein Thailand to see 'appy children playing.... without people glaring at you like yer might be a wierdo... or without the kids thrmsleves spitting ina threating way towards you!!!!!!!

I ave noticed little things like the pride taken in everything.... like the railway stations are imacculate... with the staff very proud to wear their uniforms... and the McD's that I went to... that's the 'as to 'ave the most friendly staff & imacculate building inside & out... that you really could eat your food off the floor!!!!!
The McD where ave been staying... ave visited regular... and noticed the same bloke there everyday... all day cleaning... It's plain to see 'is pride in 'is job & keeping 'is McD so clean!!!!!!!
In the UK yer go to a McD & there's litter that people ave just chucked out of their car window... strewn all over the car park.... it's sad to see but this shows the lack of respect & pride that many British people seem to 'ave for their society & country!!!!!!!!

When I go abroad... I can not but 'elp notice 'ow the seems to be so much pride in other countries!!!!!!

In Thailand there's also photos of The King everywhere.... 'e is absolutelty adored... yet in the UK... 'alf of us seem to not want The Queen & Royalty!!!!!!!
The British Queen is the greatest in the world... but why do so amny resent the Queen????
Is it to do with the constant cycnical poison that's written in the tabloids about The Monarchy????
    Slowly talking down Great Britain????

It pains me to say this.... as I am proud to be British.... but why/ 'ow 'as our country become so broken!!!!!!!!

I just can't put my finger on it!!!!!!!!

Sorry if my blog offends any... but I can't 'elp being a deep thinker... observing/ analysing when ever I travel.... and comparing to my own country!!!!!!!!

Actually sorry to get carried away 'ere.... what am trying ter say.... is am not caught up in the Thailand floods!!!!!!!!!!!

    Bye!

    Super Bagpuss

You had no real reason to explain your comments and you certainly have no need to apologise!

As somebody found out on here last night, it is so easy to give an opinion which can be construed as being offensive by somebody else when no offence was meant. Today even the media have been taken to task for reporting bad news from an area where somebody who is related to someone who posts on the blog may have been.

If every comment has to be considered in the light that someone, somewhere might take offence then nothing will ever get written.

I do hope that you absence does not mean you have bullied off the blog as others have been. If this blog is to continue it needs people with differing points of view.

Well, Phil Cunningham was fab. Think it was only on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ2 Scotland. He's a well-known accordian player who often plays with Aly Bain. They were on Atlantic Sessions and play at Celtic Connections in Glasgow and Celtic Colours in Nova Scotia.

If you get the chance, have a look.

Comedy is subjective and I am sure that your "style" of comedy is not very welcome on here? Of course i could be wrong, eh? LOL

I looked out of my window and could not see a full moon, rather surprised to see you out and about. ;-)

Anyway, Jill, I do not know why you bother on here, it will end in tears for sure! Do yourself a favour and be nice.

    Evening All,

Chris, I really felt for you this morning. Speaking as one who has a great deal of opinions but absolutely no knowledge to back them up with. I often end up in that situation.
My solution for extracating myself from such situations is usually "I'm going to the bar, anybody want a drink?" - sadly, not an option open to you - well, not nowadays anyway! ;0)

Huge, huge, huge.....no, Ginormous congratulations to you and the team on your Sony nominations (Go Mo Stu!).
The same to Dermot O'leary, who - with his 'Indie Disco' slot - has the best feature on any Radio show that I listen to. As well as the inimitable Simon Mayo and his side kick on R5 Mark Kermode. Right through to Peter Allen, Nicky Campbell, Victoria Derbyshire, Gaby Logan and all of the much maligned (sometimes rightly) ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ bods that get me through the day.

Particular praise and best wishes to the Epic (as in larger than life) Danny Baker for both of his. The other one must be lonely!
I hope and pray that he is well enough to collect them himself when he wins them.
The Elton John interview was superb, and he didn't swear once, if I recall correctly.

Hi to all my fellow bloggers (part or full time). For what it's worth, my middle name is Trevor! That is all x

    Jill,

Quite correct it is not my blog, never said it was as I recall? You do seem to have a problem with us bloggers that is easily cured. ;-) I am surprised your knowledge is so great of the social networking sites as I have always been under the impression you do not frequent them? At least these (cretins/lonly people/cult) bloggers do not hide behind anything other than their real identities. Nothing to hide I guess?

As for me being a cretin!? How rude? LOL xx

    Much love
