THE FINAL FRONT EAR
Oh nooooooooooo. It鈥檚 nearly over.
Last night was the first time since Sunday that we could literally draw breath We arrived at today鈥檚 venue, WILTSHIRE, just before eleven o鈥檆lock last night, which meant we were already on site for today so could relax and let what little is left of our hair down..
We stayed up till鈥
鈥.3 a.m. !
It was almost like the old days. ..
When I did the Radio 1 road show, we were partying every night till sunrise, you name it we drank it, it was mental, real rock 鈥榥鈥 roll.
Last night it was Johnny, Nic, Keith and I, with a couple of bottles of red wine, some home made pickled onions and stories about days gone by.
Though sedate in comparison, it was equally as enjoyable, four good old boys chewing the fat. Keith鈥檚 got some great stories about his time as a broadcast engineer. .And the boy Saunders, well you wouldn鈥檛 believe looseness of his tongue once a couple of glasses of wine have been partaken.
A couple of the gang are a bit sad that all this is about to come to an end. I know what they mean but I鈥檓 not sad at all. I tend to get more sad when things are actually happening, when I look around and everyone鈥檚 laughing and having the time of their lives. I sort of mute the sound and see it as a film of a time gone by. It鈥檚 not sadness really I suppose, it鈥檚 more of a huge appreciation of what a good time we鈥檙e having, in a way I think joy and sadness are almost the same thing. A fine line, if you like, between having something you love and the fear of losing it.
I have nothing but happy memories from this trip. There hasn鈥檛 been a cross word between the team and it gives me a chance to use one of my favourite ever words鈥 think it has totally GALVANISED us. Wow I love that word, it sounds so like it is.
Death, injury, popularity and contracts permitting I think we will definitely be together for some time to come. The seven of us and you of course.

I know what you mean about sadness and happiness being close! I remember after I gave birth to ben nearly three years ago having that exact emotion. I remember being happy he was finally here, but the world suddenly looking different.
A fear so overpowering of loosing him. As soon as you have a child I think you get that fear, because you are totally aware if you lost them it would be your life over too.
Its similar to the fear of loosing a lover, but deeper as you know deep down that you would get over a lover, it may be the hardest thing you have done but you would get over it, but a child not a chance. I think that is why I decided to stick at just the one!
I have never been more grateful to see the weekend in sight!

Suspected you guys were up late drinking last night, but the pickled onions sound great. I can imagine James May doing the same thing, with Oz Clarke watching on in disgust! I can't believe that pickled onions improve the flavour too much (except of bad wine - maybe James' efforts of a couple of weeks ago?)
BTW - James and Oz were hilarious last night!
Had a nasty moment as you described your night. I realized that 4 of the characters in my book are called: Johnny, Keith, Nick and Christophe. 3 out of 4 are bit-part players, though (in the book only!) and they never meet...
Or at least, they were never planned to meet. But now I'm thinking that a scene with the 4 of them drinking wine and eating pickled onions might just have to sneak in there somewhere. Do you have copyright on the scene?

One particular Christmas season a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip, but there were problems everywhere. Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule.
Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mom was coming to visit. This stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where. More stress.
Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked, and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys.
So, frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered that the elves had hidden the liquor, and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider pot, and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and irritable Santa trudged to the door. He opened the door, and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said, very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't it a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?"
Thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

I absolutely love reminising with collegues on the old days, - gosh at the time the thing one laughs about now, it was such a big deal - in youth it was found to be job threatening, but in middle age - easy to see how earnest and paranoid one was! (excuse the language I couldn't express it any other way)... but I also love planning for the future..But I'm lucky I have a job I enjoy and feel appreciated!

I鈥檝e got this Christmas thing bad. I found myself driving to work this morning in the monsoon singing along to David Bowie and Bing Crosby. Now, there are great Christmas tunes, naff Christmas tunes and plain bad Christmas tunes and I鈥檓 not sure where this one sits. Old Bing 鈥 bless him, he popped his clogs a month after they recorded this 鈥 in his golfing garb and The Dame landing on his doorstep like a creature from Mars. In a cheesy, schmaltzy way I quite like it. 鈥樷橧t鈥檚 a pretty song, isn鈥檛 it........鈥欌
Glad to hear that the tour is winding up on a high note. Perhaps a song for tonight could be, as REM played in Hyde Park last year......

Afternoon All,
My first contribution to this, though I have been reading for a few weeks ... some great discussions and thoughts from a whole range of interesting people that have really made me think. This community has been really eye-opening, and I think Chris does a superb job of stimulating the discussion each day, often with such simple, everyday things ... makes me all the more frustrated that I often miss the show as I am travelling home on the train!
Today it is the point on the fine line between joy and sadness that really hit me - I think you are absolutely right, that line is extremely fine, and it is often reflections on the joy that cause the sadness.
This is a bit of a problem, because it makes it so easy not to enjoy the joy because you are so worried (scared even) that it wont be felt in the same way again. Yes, I think it can often be a real fear, not just a worry. Having just turned 30, maybe that is a dilemma that is really hitting home now ... but one that I must try to resist ... each day has so many joys, that it seems stupid to tint them with sadness. On the other hand, maybe it is the reflections of sadness that emphasise and bring out the real value of the joy ... on which note this is getting far too philosophical for me!
Thanks to Chris, and to everyone, for contributing to something that has really added to my days in the last few weeks, and made me start to see things in different lights ... it feels so refreshing to have the mind opened in the most unexpected of ways!

It sounds like you鈥檝e had such a great time Chris. Oh yes, that fine line. I don鈥檛 experience it often but when I do, it鈥檚 hard to hold back the floodgates.
Recently a bunch of my Uni friends met up for one of our birthdays. It was a surprise and we all travelled from different parts of the UK to be there for her. It鈥檚 been about 8 years since we had all been together and some, like me have had babies since then. They came too : ) She was so happy to see us and so humbled that we had made the effort. I had one of those moments that day. I can look back at that day and remember life鈥檚 perfection.
A week passed and I received a letter thanking me for being there that day. The floodgates did open this time because there wasn鈥檛 anyone to see me hahahaha : )

Why has this week coincided with busy times at work. I've missed nearly all of the shows, catching only a measly 15mins yesterday >8o(((
Christophe, I know what you mean about looking around when everyone is laughing, having a good time and feeling sad... yet thoroughly satisfoed. I'm involved in the social committee at work and we organise social events at work and it's exciting organising eveything, but there comes a point in the evening when I like to take myself out of things, sit in a quiet corner alone, sip my wine and enjoy watching everyone have a good time. It's almost as if everything goes into slow-motion, like on that Star Trek film when Jean-Luc falls for the woman on the planet of eternal youth.
Anyway, if I'm lucky I might get to hear fox-the-fox tonight, but if not, have a great time and I'll catch up with you all soon.

Moose, my dear, don't fall into the corporate trap they are laying for you. I have just been through the side move to accomodate a falling fat cat. I tried (only a bit) to continue before GALVANISING all forces (contacts and friends) to find a new job. I am waving goodbye to the corporate world and start with a new company in Feb with only 22 people working there, all of which I met at the christmas party they invited me to. I can't wait to get to work in the new company with some really lovely people and a boss who cares. I already feel more wanted than I ever did where I am now.
Gosh am I still rambling, go for whatever feels right, my ex is an accountant and he had a job move (although it was after 10 years) it took him 2 years to decide!!
Just eating a cheese and red onion sandwich, have great onioney breath. Off to get chrismas decorations out of the loft.

How exciting - Chris Evans and the gang a stones throw from where I live - well maybe a smidge more than a stones throw but certainly no more than 10 miles. Hasn't it been fab this week - more fab than usual. It has to be a regular occurence. What a brilliant way to cheer up the rainy and windy UK ! !

marshie - have secret agenda. 2nd (or maybe 3rd) book requires lots of corporate experiences...I have been collecting them all my career. I like to call it research.
It feels much better when bosses or colleagues do stupid corporate stuff - I just think to myself...that's going in the book! and then I know that revenge is a dish best served cold. I'm biding my time. Waiting...
I feel like I might just need one more corporate to supply a fully balanced set of views. 3 doesn't feel like it's enough. More than 4 and I'll be too old to enjoy it...

from yesterdays blog, Moose, it isnt about being shallow. its definately human nature to feel better when you are appreciated - so long as you always remember that the grass isnt necessarily greener on the otherside, but sometimes the other side is brighter.
I sometimes think that being appreciated wouldnt matter so much if i got myself from me rather than others.... does that make sense? If i was happy and self accepting - it wouldnt matter a jot what anyone else thought or did.... tho i suppose even then i would appreciate being appreciated.
got the decorations out the loft today, started to ease christmas in to our home and get the tree on Saturday, cant wait to smell the tree, decorate it whilst listening to christmas tunes and wrap the man cubs pressies - he will really start to 'get it' this year!

JO - just to let you know. I must apologise but I asked Bean to look out for Charley.
Unfortunately she assumed Charley was going to be a cat, so again, unfortunately, Charley now has a small(ish) scratch across his nose for (as Bean put it) "Unnecessary over-exuberance on the part of a breed of dog of his pedigree which should know better."
I must point out that at all times Bean is a Moggie (capital M) and EXTREMELY jealous of anyone with a pedigree and she feels it her bounden duty to smack down those she thinks are too full of themselves. She takes a lot after my Gran'ma... at least you know that Charley is leaping about in fine style!
Believe me, if he's taking on my lovely Bean, there ain't nuthin wrong with him now!

I think you have definitely shown that you are King of the Drivetime and your listeners and bloggers have taken you into their hearts and lives! You brighten up that slot of our day between 5 & 7pm and your blog has made us feel that we have gotten to know you so much better! You are a smashing lad with a great big heart!
I KNEW you would be up to the wee, sma' hours! But so glad you all enjoyed it! Well done Rebecca for coping with it ..... what stories you'll have to tell that bonny wee baby! He/she had the privelage of being on an amazing adventure!

I have an epipen for wasp stings and worry that she is going to have allergies. My heart cried when I read what he said to you. :(

First time blogging on your site although I did get slightly mugged into buying a "TFI" mug off you many years ago when you used to have to drag your weary hungover head out of bed to Radio 1.
Believe it or not, the thing was fantastic... its totally indestructible and still holds me tea or whatever in good style!
Two reasons for entering the blog for the first time today. The first is that your broadcasting from only just down the road as I live slightly north of the great city of Salisbury. I was really tempted to come down to the Woodfalls Inn and join the party but unfortunately my little boy Edward has come home from school with a tummy bug. So parenting comes first my friend.
Secondly, I just wanted to relay the great morning I had today on a Bicester airfield racing two Ferraris, a Porsche 911, a Lotus Elise, a Audi RS8 and a mental Suzuki at over 140mph!!
Fantastic, and thanks so much to my girlfriend Fay for organising it for me as my Christmas present.
Anyway Chris, Team, and all you bloggers, have a great evening...enjoy the Woodfalls hospitality Chris. Its a great pub and as you know already the breakfast in the conservatory is first class.
I will look forward to seeing the photos on the walls next time I am in.

really great shows on the road chris just eondering if you have got a daughter,or young sister living in huddersfield,i work for a removal company.and the likeness was amazing,wish i had taken a photo to send to you,i wont lie i wasnt sure if drive time would be as good after jw,but got to say its even better.and taking it on the road was a great idea,very very impressed with all the singers/groups you had on didnt realise how good ronan was,anyway thanks for a great show
Belting week Chris and team. Some people don't seem to understand why someone sitting in their car listening to a radio 'show' is constantly smiling! The family and guests on Monday certainly cheered myself and the father of my grandson up as we travelled from Burnley to Bolton and back to collect a cooker and hob in some attrocious weather! All Request Friday as usual tomorrow. Roll on the next tour.
What a fab night at the Woodfalls Inn. Chris and the team were fabulous and we had the best night. Can't wait til the next time!!

Happy Thursday bloggers, I love the road show and saw 'Love Actually' for the first time last night. I cried buckets it just oozes warm feelings and good intentions. I think you are all smashing and want the drivetime team to stay together for years to come. Radio 2 makes me feel happy and cosy, the shows help me relax on my journeys, especially as I navigate the scary morning and evening traffic o the M62. My day begins with Terry and usually ends with Chris, my loved ones have his show to thank for getting be back home safe 鈥榥鈥 sound. I鈥檓 watching Hudson Hawke on the box and it鈥檚 raining cats and dogs out, what a joy a night in front of the fire and good telly is.

what I liked the most about the show today was the magic moments requests, it gave me a chance to think about what was magic about the day and I reolised I had been married to my darling man for 3 months now.
Like Chris I stood in the Old Blacksmiths shop at Gretna Green and almost stopped the moment in my mind to hold it for ever and today your request session made me remember it, happiness is good friends doing fun things

Reiki is an interesting one, not sure how you really found it but I definately think that you get differing experiences depending on who you receive it from. Some people are on a bit of a reiki bandwagon, whereas some people are genuinly using the skill for all its holistic benefits.... Obviously dont know who you went to, and i wouldnt want to judge, but its definately worth exploring practitioners if you were in any way interested... check out some of the federations such as reiki alliance, reiki federation etc.
Sometimes it comes in to your life, just when you need it most.

I'm sure Charley is currently chasing your Bean around! When My mum and dad had a Cat and he was a puppy there were a few nasty incidences of dog biting cats tail as cat was resting on the arm of the sofa - Many scratches later I think he learnt his lesson. He was so frightened of the cat but the cat looked really tough as even with little puppy barks going round he didn't move a muscle - we though it best to not tell Charley that the cat was profoundly deaf and couldn't hear his frightening yaps! He was scared of that cat ever since - but used to sit up on our sofa looking out the window for PC's (Puss Cats) and then barking when they had the tenacity to walk past!

Wilsmar - sorry you couldn't get through (or did you in the end?) There was a comment waiting about someone having to use their baby to answer the doorbell, or something like that. Thanks for asking about the book. It's doing so-so. I think we just need more publicity really, because I'm getting very good feedback from people who have read it. I had no idea my misadventures would cause such merriment amongst readers. Oh well. Whatever it takes, I suppose.
Anyway, we need to sell about a thousand copies to provide a borehole and water pump in a Kenyan school. It's unlikely given the current trend that we'll reach that target soon, so it's a good job we've got other gifts to offer!

Hello all,
I agree happiness and sadness are very close together, I always cry when I'm happy, especially about my kids. I will be a mess next week when i go to see their school Christmas plays; the little one is Joseph, and the big one is Prince Charming in Cinderella in his last year at primary school - I think many tears will be shed, but some will be of laughter as he will no doubt ham it up as much as possible!
Susan S - Thankyou so much for your kind comments re his allergic reaction, he is fine now thankyou, he's quite a positive thinker which is why I felt so sad when he was upset on Wednesday. It's just something he's going to have to live with, but he's fine most of the time and we have to be grateful for that.
I was so shocked today in the playground, the school have asked the kids not to buy Christmas cards for eachother this year but to bring in the money they would have spent on cards to donate to charity. A couple of parents said they weren't going to donate, I had a go at them I'm afraid. I know it's none of my business but why are some people so selfish? I bet they're not Chris Evans listeners!!
I'm going to try (for the millionth time) to get a song played tonight. Surely bloggers should take priority over ordinary listeners!!

Reiki... Anna, thank you so much for recommending groups. I was wondering how you know if you have a good Reiki Master or not... I had a lovely relaxing time, some funny sensations, like whirling, some ecstatic happiness and then a surge of annoyance.
Didn't think I felt any different, just relaxed, but this morning... Amazing. Bounced out of bed at 6.40, decided to let my son sleep on, and I flew out the door and did his paper round! I was too early for the shop so had a wee cycle round the estate til it opened. Amazing..... Can't fathom it, but something has changed.

Morning all, and particularly to Christophe and the finest radio show team ever assembled!
I鈥檝e been very quiet on the blog this week, schlogging away.
I woke up this morning when my alarm went off at ohmigod o鈥檆lock and instead of turning the radio on I just laid in bed for 5 minutes. Joy of joys the sound I could hear was not one of howling winds as it had been when I went to bed, but the mournful hooting of an owl in the copse of trees just down the hill. What a fabulous sound to wake up to, eventually I got up and went over to the window and looked out across a scene that appeared calm, I could see planes on final approach to Heathrow, the new Wembley arch still lit up, it really is an amazing sight (but you couldn鈥檛 beat the old twin towers), in the distance I could see the post office tower, Tower 42 (the old Nat West tower, and in the very far distance the growing skyscape that is Canary Wharf and docklands. The smell of a very fresh new morning came through the sash window and the background tune of the owl still hooting, and funnily enough my thoughts turned to Chris and Winnie the Pooh. How soothing.
On the drive home last night, listening to the finest show on radio (pssst Chris that鈥檚 yours!), I was absent-mindedly munching on a bag of revels, at one point I had 4 Orangey ones in a row, followed by four coffee and then four small geezers (Maltesers). This was scaring me so I picked up the bag and shook it to mix them up, I then got four toffee ones. So I stopped eating them, as I was frightened of finding a raisin that resembled Jesus.
Went for the office Christmas party yesterday, and had a fabulous time with my colleagues, three plus hours of laughter, good food and great company. Bring it on!!!

Christmas Story for people having a bad day....
When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.
Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
So, frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.
He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door,
yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?"
And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.
i have NEVER posted anywhere before,but just had to say "Chris and the team, thanks for this week". your enjoyment and sheer glee during the tour came over like no other OB ive heard.i found myself driving home with a fat stupid grin on my face each night this week even Mrs H who has always thought CE to be a bit of a "Twit" loved it.

What a milarky. It seems the spooks have got to my pc of late. My screen has not displayed the blog, even after hitting the refresh button. I have been in limbo.
Which leads me onto tomorrow nights party at the home(for retired carabret artists). Yes it's Limbo night. All very excited here as the prize is a packet of Jaffa cakes and a bottle of rum.
Enjoyed reading everyones posts and listening to Chris's road show. Best performance I thought from the Brass band in Wistshire. Loved it.

Maybe that would be a way to get people more engaged and involved...makes it more personal to know that one has contributed to 1cm of a borehole or whatever...just an idea.
You could put up a mosaic type picture on your blog with 1,000 pixels...a bit like that millionaire home page guy did...and the purchasers could see "their" bit of borehole - they could dedicate it to someone or post a message to it or...
...offer a lottery prize of a night out with yourself, Dolores, Denise or Ravel (depending on gender and orientation of the winner - I think all possibles are covered) for a pixel owner picked at random once the borehole is sunk...

I can't wait to finish work, get in my car and spend an hour driving home listening to your show 6 till 7. Sheer class.
I too was sat with Chris, Nic, Johnny and Keith at the Woodfalls Inn, till 3.00am, on Thursday morning. Neither my head or more importantly my wife, have forgotten it yet, but thanks fellas, for a fantastic, memorable evening. I am sure that last glass of Port was off!!
I listened to snatches of last week's shows from around the country. I was struck by how pleasantly suprised you were by how pleasant most people were. The reality is, despite what the news media want us to believe, that the vast majority of people in the UK, approached in a cheerful manner, treated decently, with respect, respond in a thoroughly decent way. They are sometimes suprised to be dealt with cheerfully as they believe what they see, hear and read; that everyone is determined to do them down, but once they have some confidence in you, they are great. Of course there are some shits about but they are in a tiny minority.
Please spread the word; treat others decently and they will respond.
