It's Raining, Man!

cds.jpgYeah, like, raining songs or something, get me?

For some unfathomable reason everyone - but EVERYONE - who has access to a recording studio and a CD-pressing plant is putting a single out at the moment. And I don't mean this in a general sense either, I'm not saying there's a lot of music in the shops these days. What I'm saying is that the two weeks from October 22nd to October 29th will possibly go down in music history as the Fortnight Of Too Many Songs (or something like that).

But enough exposition, let's rock!

Elliot Minor - 'White One Is Evil'

Glass Half Full: In a total inversion of normal pop rules, the more epic and huge Elliot Minor get, the better they sound. Sometimes MORE is more...
Glass Half Empty: Which means the verses are a little bit Busted-lite, at times.

Gym Class Heroes 'Queen And I'

Glass Half Full: Responsible rappers with an Outkast fetish and a disgruntled rock press having to cover them because they're on Fall Out Boy's label - loving this! Oh, and the mandolins and bouzoukis are just lovely.
Glass Half Empty: It lacks a hook as strong as 'Clothes Off', despite being a better song.

One Night Only - 'You And Me'

Glass Half Full: They've nicked the first line from Lisa Loeb's 'Stay', and made it perky. You can't argue with that.
Glass Half Empty: There is such a thing as too much sugar, boys...

Akon - 'Sorry, Blame It On Me'

Glass Half Full: Well it's always nice when people take the time to say they're sorry, and try and act responsibly.
Glass Half Empty: He's done better responsible songs than this, and I'm not entirely sure he means it (in the same way that I'm not entirely sure Liam Gallagher lives under my desk). That last verse is self-serving, whiny, and bitter, he'd have been better off just keeping quiet.

Young Knives - 'Terra Firma'

Glass Half Full: "Fake rabbit, real snake, terra firma, terra firma"
Glass Half Empty: There's nothing wrong with this song at all. There wasn't when Franz Ferdinand did this sort of thing four years ago and there isn't now.

Robyn - 'Handle Me'

Glass Half Full: Best use of the word narcissistic in pop ever. Extra points for "psycho freakin'" too.
Glass Half Empty: Seems a little pop-R&B-by-numbers after to the wonderful 'Heartbeat'.

The Courteeners - 'Acrylic'

Cloud: If you sound like the Libertines, and your song sneers at someone who's being moulded into "the libertine dream", you are a pot, and your kettle's looking miffed and saying "it's 'kitchen implement of colour', ACTUALLY..".
Silver Lining: Good band, the Libertines. At least the Courteeners don't sound like all those post-Snow Patrol Big Indie bands.

Samim - 'Heater'

Glass Half Full: It's a DANCE TRACK with an ACCORDIAN on it. YIKES!
Glass Half Empty: The aural whiff of a holiday song you're never going to listen to once the clocks have gone back.

Three starsDownload: Out now

==========================

New Young Pony Club - 'Get Lucky'

Glass Half Full: "I'm gonna give, gonna give you all my love"
Glass Half Empty: OMG! OH NO! Tahita left the rest of the tune on the bus, and had to busk it! Hope no-one notices! Eeek!

Two starsDownload: Out now

==========================

The Cribs - 'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant'

Glass Half Full: You can sing 'About You Now' by the Sugababes over the introduction.
Glass Half Empty: I'd rather be IRrelevent - Tortoise! Sandals! Lobster! Lethal Bizzle's chip shop on the moon!

And that's not all...there's also singles out by , , , , , , ...your mum, your dad, all your friends and everyone you've ever met.

By contrast, the week of November 5th is looking decidedly sparse. Mind you, Kanye West has a new single out that week, I guess everyone is running scared after the 50 Cent humiliation thing...

Elliot Minor - 'White One Is Evil'

What your little brothers band sounded like pre-puberty.

Gym Class Heroes 'Queen And I'

Mandolins and bouzoukis good. Second rate pop bad.

One Night Only - 'You And Me'

If I had a puppy it would make this record.

Akon - 'Sorry, Blame It On Me'

[aside - rumour has it the EnEmE will be shut v.soon. Satan, laughing spreads his wings]

    Robyn - 'Handle Me'

The record s/he should have released six months ago.

    The Courteeners - 'Acrylic'

What your little brothers band sounded like pre-learning instruments.

    Samim - 'Heater'

Accordian evil. Video brilliant. Watch with sound off.

New Young Pony Club - 'Get Lucky'

Three strong fanbase leaves when EnEmE shuts.

The Cribs - 'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant'
