Three chords and the truth...
Well that was a tremendously upbeat an perky show tonight. It was entirely co-incidental that it came on the back of an election but it made all those songs like Beautiful Day and It's Getting Better seem like they were loaded with meaning. They weren't.
Monday's theme is 'three chord wonders' so that is tunes where three really is the magic number. We'll feature everything from country to The Quo but I have seen online that some folk think The Trogg's Wild Thing was the best three chord song of all time. I wonder what your thoughts are....

When I was about 13-14 I was learning to play guitar on an old acoustic. My mate in the next block had 2 older brothers who played guitar and bass in a band. He was learning to play bass on his brother's bass and when his brothers were out we would jam together with me using his brother's electric.
One day his brother came home early and 'caught' us. He asked us what was it we wanted to do. We said play in a local band playing pubs/weddings etc earn a few bob. He looked at me and said 'a wedding band ehh!!, how many chords do you know? With a very coy look I replied "four" not wanting to show my inadequacies and hoping he wouldn't ask me to show him the chords, he sucked his teeth and shook his head and said " four chords??? that's no use for a wedding band, you will have to forget one you are over qualified"
Now my 3 chord Roxy Music song has lots of great memories for me. I got into music when I was 14 half way between Roxy's Manifesto album and the Flesh And Blood album. So everything I bought and heard before F+B was retrospective. The first single from Flesh And Blood was 'Over You' so this was the first 'new release' Roxy Music record I had bought, the first record I wanted to buy before it had even been released.
It was also the very first song played on the very first 'paid' gig I did with my band the legendary 'Trade Secret' on May 6th 1981

I know, the last time I pointed out how well Bryan and Babs work together as a team all hell broke loose - but I stand by them both. Since that blog row, Richard has noticeably bucked his ideas up a bit and been more communicative when producing - in fact, all the producers are more communicative.
So, although the blog, in the round, seems to be increasingly drifting to the margin - as though we were the looney left of music appreciation - the bloggers do make a difference.
Disappointingly, I notice long periods can go past in the show now when blog requests don't get a look in. There was a show quite recently when the blog was almost completely unrepresented and some of us have taken to blogging first, texting later.
I feel certain, though, that such ongoing constructive criticism as our blog produces serves the best interests of the show overall and that we are indeed a positive contribution to the work of genius that is Get It On.
