Ben Hammersley on backstage.bbc.co.uk
"backstage.bbc.co.uk isn't just a result of the unique way the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ is funded. That it fulfils a requirement of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ charter is wholly incidental. It's actually a symbol of something much much bigger: it's laying down the gauntlet for the rest of the world. It proves the point that on the internet, hiding your content is suicide. It says that you can either open up, and we can all flourish together; or you can remain closed, and die alone."
The words of - respected technical journalist, author and esteemed evangelist for the semantic web.
Before launching to the public we ran an internal ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ-staff-only iteration of backstage.bbc.co.uk for members of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ’s new media departments.
The response was phenomenal.
Ben Hammersley was asked to preside over the fruits of everyone’s spare-time labour, tasked with the aim of finding the 'cream of the crop' from the ideas and prototypes submitted.
We’ll be showcasing who won in the coming days and weeks – watch this space.
