This piece is a collection of 90 different photographs of road surfaces around London, capturing the subject of change. Also recording of different surfaces such as when looking at one individual image, you can see the different layers of the road. For example; brick under tarmac with paint on top dictating the rules for cars. In addition the layer of the pedestrian path. There is no significant reason behind having 90 images but a reason behind a large amount of images, as the work relates with the streets of London, the mass amount of streets and how each road links to another one, it’s not obvious to the eye when walking around the amount of surfaces are under our feet and the range of textures, colours and shapes which brings the viewer aware of in this piece. Each image has a part of the pedestrian path in it to give the relationship of my journey through this project to the audience, and also bring up the topic that when driving we are not able to see this but when walking we are more conscious of our surroundings and are able to identify such man made constructions. One image alone dose not give you the answer you are looking for in this work, it’s when stepping back and viewing all 90, when able to see colours and textures connecting with each other, when you are able to let the eye jump from one image to the other. Before assembling the photographs together I thought about how I could connect each image, if it was one side curb connecting with another, maybe the link between one yellow line to another, but when randomly placing the images to see the work and the affect it generates, I realised if I purposely connect one images with another, the idea of letting the audience interact with the piece would be destroyed as I would generate the viewers journey through the work instead of letting there imagination take control.
