Title: Rage and Revenge.
by Jake from Dorset | in writing, fiction
It was a bitter, misty morning in England, 1897. Tomas warily treaded around the empty, echoing forest as he searched for a path back to the comforting safety of his home. He cursed himself for being foolish enough to sprint into a dark, scary forest without carefully noting his path. He shivered with cold as a sharp blast of ice-cold wind battered him. A loud wolf cry suddenly broke the silence, and stopped Tomas in his tracks. He paused, listening to the silence of the night. The unrelenting darkness loomed ahead of him, blocking his view, and creating a cage of blackness.
A harsh cry pierced the deathly silence of the night like a knife, causing Tomas to cry out in alarm. His eyes snapped up to the trees and he searched for the intruder of peace. He noticed a pair of large red eyes staring at him as he nervously searched the surrounding tree. Tomas crept around the trunk of the tree and stared at the animal concealed within the leafy boughs. A large snowy white owl glared at him. Tomas let out a breath he didn't realise he had been holding in. As he fascinated over the beautiful owl a glare of light washed over him. Tomas turned his head slightly to see the moon. 'A full moon'' He thought, and shivered again, this time more from fear then the cold.
He slowly started walking again, and was aware that a loud crunching noise issued from the leaves each time his feet pushed them to the ground. He winced as he snapped a twig, and stopped walking as he heard footsteps from behind him. His eyes widened and he started running. He heard an unknown pursuer give a dry, rattling breath. Tomas was now sprinting into the dark, dodging trees and jumping roots. Tomas turned his head as he ran, and saw and saw blood red eyes, a dry, matted grey and red snout, he felt the overpowering stench of the beast gag him as he ran. Fear closed in on him as his pursuer gave a dry, hoarse chuckle. He tried to scream, but his vocal chords were ignoring him. He felt a large body slam him to the floor, and a sharp searing pain in his shoulder. He heard a sarcastic voice growl "nighty night". Tomas turned and drank in the appearance of his tormentor. He managed to whisper
"I'll remember you''
Tomas felt his eyelids droop, and the floor rushed up and hit him. He remembered no more as the dirt crept into his mouth and his head pounded...
Chapter 2.
Tomas awoke several days later in a daze and sat up groggily, barely able to open his eyes. He slowly looked around himself, and drank in his surroundings. He wondered where he was, and why his head was throbbing. He groaned and felt his voice straining. He tried standing up but sat down immediately as his whole body started screaming in protest.
He rubbed his face with his hands, and felt his messy fur crunch upon his touch. He shook his head slightly, and immediately regretted it as it started hurting even more. All of a sudden he woke up as he realised- He had fur. That wasn't normal. The other day's activities smashed into him like a brick wall as he realised what had happened. A werewolf had bitten him. Which meant that he was a werewolf. He felt his dread build up as his mind came up with all of the worse possibilities. He bit his lip as he thought- and tasted blood. He gasped and reached into his mouth to feel his teeth. He sighed as he felt each of his teeth had a sharp tip on it. He closed his eyes and calmed himself down. He tried to stop all of the thoughts rushing through his head, but couldn't halt them. He jumped up and ran. He didn't know where he was going, or why he was running. He just needed to escape from the realization, and pain that the truth left him with. Tomas kept going until he finally could see an opening in the fortitude of trees. He ran, and felt lighter than air and quicker than light. Within seconds, Tomas had cleared the forest and reached an opening.
His heart fluttered as he saw his house. He walked to the front door and raised his hand to the knob, ready to open the door. Before he could, he suddenly remembered. He couldn't let anyone see him looking like this. He wanted to see himself in the mirror so much, but he knew he couldn't do that to his parents, and loved ones. He just couldn't hurt them like that. He ran around the outside of the house until he reached the river behind his garden. He stared into the deep, unfathable waters and was mesmerised for a second. A pair of deep, hypnotic red eyes were staring at him from the water, and dragged him towards the murky depths. All thoughts were pushed to the back of his head and forgotten as his own reflection filled his brain.
Tomas leaned towards it, and slowly raised his hand towards the pond, as if to touch it, to see if it was real. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He didn't trust his own brain as it fed him the truth. He closed his eyes, and wished that he was lying to himself, and his brain was wrong. He opened his eyes as slowly as possible, and begged himself not to see the truth. He sighed with disappointment, and in the lakes reflection, a werewolf sighed with him.
Tomas' disappointment was replaced with anger. This was not supposed to happen. Not to him. He was too young. He had a full life ahead of him. He grabbed a rock and lobbed it at the calm lake surface, hoping that if he destroyed the foul werewolf staring back at him, he could destroy the wolf in him, and he could go back to normal. But he knew that now he had it in his blood. It could not be purged, and would stay with him forever. There was only one thing left for him. Revenge. His target rushed into Tomas' head and he gave a manic, hating grin. He turned his back to his home, his site of birth, and where he had grown up. He turned away from everything he ever loved, and would never turn back. His attacker would regret ever having met Tomas, as he became the worst enemy possible. An enemy with nothing to lose.
None really...
