Title: A Dying Dog

by Tilly from London | in writing, poetry

There was a light at the end of your tunnel,
An engraving for your grave,
I freed your clouded eyes and broke your stony gaze.

I can still hear your sigh as you resigned yourself to fate,
Your heart in my hands I wish it wasn't too late.
But I made my decision- a decision that was right,
And now you are at peace up where the sky is bright.

I eased your aching pains,
Blanketed your sorrows,
Made sure you didn't have to drag through more uncertain tomorrows.

I can still feel the weight of you as you breathed your last breath,
Peaceful, sleepy, content, even in death,
we made our decision a decision we will stand by for life,
Even when I am a mother, aunt, sister and a wife.

You had lost the will to live,
The will to eat, the will to breathe,
The only reasonable option was to let you leave.

I can still taste the bitter tang of loss on my tongue,
I just want to shout: please if anyone's there let him live- I know he's not young,
I made my decision- a decision I will never regret,
She does not understand so immersed in her resent!

You were half gone already,
You're happy now- I know
The kindest thing I could of done was to let you go.

I can still smell the gulp you took from the air
That gap in the world for me will always be there.
I made my decision one that I will forever be proud,
As I know you are everywhere not deep in the ground.

Your head was in the sky already, body and soul not completely one,
I will remember you forever.
This is not finished this is not done.

I can still see your eyes glazed over and cold,
I just wanted to squeeze you, forever in my hold,
We made our decision- a decision we will forever be shown
The decision was not just mine- I did not make it alone.
