Title: Pickled Life
by Caitlin from Northumberland | in writing, poetry
There was once a garden of the rainbow
Sprouting out happiness from it's
silent soil. Every plant was kissed
by the crimson sun in the morning's
dew. Blessed.
Then came December's cold grasp.
Strangling growth, choked.
All beauty was plastered over
and sealed under a blanket of frost.
Their world had stopped, yet remained.
Pickled Life.
Bluebells and daisies were preserved
and displayed like stuffed animals
in a museum. Waiting.
Waiting until splinters of heat pierce
the cold and glassy grip of winter.
Shattering.
A warm breath now smothers the garden
and melts the cruel curse.
Fingers claw into the earth and draw up
roots and buds. New Life.
The glorious sun's rays bounce around
perfection. Nature is free and beginning
again.
I think it is amazing in Winter when life just freezes and stays still in a garden. It is preserved, not dead and not alive. It is quite sad in a way.
