Title: Do you remember?
by Georgina from West Sussex | in writing, poetry
Do you remember the lake,
Where we sat beneath the sun?
The roof above the bathroom,
That we used to climb upon?
Do you remember the drafty halls,
Or the central tower dome?
Perhaps the cosy drawing room
Of our big old stately home.
But we had grown, and grew again;
It began to take its toll,
For as we grew, we grew apart
Opposite sides of a gaping hole.
Do you remember the workhouse,
Where we struggled for a living?
Do you remember our smiles,
As the richest were forgiving?
Do you remember the murderers
And villains we unmasked?
Do you remember our slavery,
Doing the worst of tasks?
But time does not stand still for more
Than precious little seconds,
And looking up, ahead of us,
Our separate futures beckoned.
Tell me you remember
Those times from long ago,
Our happiness, our innocence,
All that we had to let go.
I don't really remember the inspiration, but it's about two people, probably a boy and a girl, who were childhood playmates but their lives led different paths and they're talking about what it used to be like. Most of things they're remembering are imaginary games.
