Title: The path of life

by Sophie from Cheshire | in writing, fiction

Dolly Draketon sat on the edge of the lounge sofa. There was kayos in her brain. She was torn between three paths three people wanted her to take and none of which she really wanted for herself.
Tara (her best friend): Come on Doll it will be fun working in the big department store all day. We will be surrounded by pretty things and we will get free samples and discount, think of all the money we will have and it will be all ours....
Dad: Oh that will be peanuts compared to what you will be earning if I get you a job at the bank. It will be so exciting......
Mum: Don't be radicalise come and live in Ibiza with me a Gregg now that will be exciting there will be sun, sea, sand.....
Dolly: (Coming to her senses) NO.
(Mum and Tara all look on in shock)
Tara: No? You don't want to go to Ibiza? You want to come and work at the department store with me?
Dolly: No I don't want to go along with any of your stupid plans; it is not what I want. I am nearly eighteen, I know I am young but it is my own life and I can make my own mistakes. I want to go to university; I want to make my own individual mark on the world.
(and with that she saunters out the door because growing up is hard and sometimes it feels easier to go along with what someone else wants you to do, with what someone else wants you to be because that seems easier, but in life you shouldn't always take the easiest way out you should stand up for what you know is right for you.)
