Title: Sometimes, it's hard to be cool
by Harriet from Shropshire | in writing, fiction
[Monologue]
[Spotlight on a scruffy boy around the age of 16 wearing dirty, bloody clothes, looking tired and distraught. Sitting on the edge of a deserted street curb. Dark surroundings.]
Sometimes, it's hard to be cool. I try. I try so hard but I can't, I can't. Not now, not after what I've done. Not after what we've done.
It was so quick. So fast. We were just mucking around. It was stupid, just a silly remark. But they made me. Why did I listen? I just kept going and going, again and again! [Pause] Then, I stopped, everyone stopped. I looked at my swollen hands, the bloody body beneath my feet. What have I done?
I'm a monster. A cold, heartless monster!
It's so hard, too hard to be cool.
This is a very powerful monologue, which leaves a strong message about the huge pressure and disastrous consequences caused by street gangs today. Violence among youths is only one of the many, horrible issues we face in Britain, and I feel that we must remember the awful torment and pain some teenagers have to go through. Hopefully, this short piece of writing will inspire you to make a difference and help those in need of advice.
