Title: The life of a teenager

by Holly from Nottinghamshire | in writing, fiction

Two girls are talking on the phone, Lucy who lives in England and Becky who lives in New Zealand. On each of the girls' walls there are their countries flag. The girls' bedrooms are shown on one half of the stage/screen. Becky is painting her toenails bright pink whilst Lucy is typing up an essay about china on her laptop whilst the girls are talking.

Becky: Hey I got your text I can't believe you took him back!
Lucy: Well his friends were all pressuring him to dump me; he just gave in to peer pressure.
Becky: still....
Lucy: I know but he's under a lot of pressure, his family are arguing, he has final exams and his brother was telling him no boys his age have a steady girlfriend.
Becky: That's rubbish
Lucy: Well that's what he was made to believe.
Becky: Are you sure you want him back? (Starts to read glossy magazine).
Lucy: It's my first relationship, it's all trial and error
Becky: Be careful
Lucy: I will.
Both halves of the screen fade to black.

My script is about a typical conversation between two teenage girls about Lucy, the girl from the UK taking her boyfriend back. All the way through the conversation there are hints about what life as a teenager is about. For instance when talking about peer pressure and the exams. There are less obvious hints too, for instance when they are talking about his brother making him believe no boys his age have a steady girlfriend and he believes him this is referring to the fact that the public sees the uk teenagers in a bad light even if it¿s not always true. When Lucy is talking about their relationship being new and about trial and error because this is what being a teenager is all about. Trying new things and finding out who you are. The toenails being painted pink shows that young people care about their appearances. At the beginning of the conversation they talk about texting and about mobile phones which show that the young people in the UK and the world are in touch with technological advances, also they two girls are obviously friends and the conversation shows how teenage girls support one another.
