Title: False judgements

by Kara from Warwickshire | in writing, fiction

The separated light bursts its way through the curtains, the scent of crushed coffee beans disperses around the room. There are hot steamy beverages on the small wooden tables, the room filled with the occasional raised voices and mixed laughter. Families stride through, queuing up quickly to get in the warmth. There is casualness to people sitting alone reading their papers. The huge pain of glass stretched over on the right hand side of the room looking out onto the wide-open area of beeping horns, fluorescent lights and the public transport carving through the roads rapidly. The drift of the soothing sounds of music invading the rooms.

Amy- (melodramatically)

AAAAAARGH. How could she?!

Lucy- (disfigured, her dark scrawny hair swept over her pale face covering her wide open eyes, returning them towards Amy)

Yeah, I know I heard, terrible innit!

Amy- (enthusiastically enraged)

He was my ex! She knew I was upset when he dumped me!

Amy- I want payback!

Lucy- (poking her straw around the ripples that are continuously swirling round her coffee)

Amy- How about during games today, we take her clothes while she's changing?

Lucy- (sniggers, with a smug grin on her face and nods)

Amy- We're gonna put that girl in her place!

Back at school. High buildings forms shadows against the green spongy grass. Students swarm around the front entrance like an angry beehive, pushing and shoving their way through, not noticing anybody else around them, selfishly making their own way through, each and every one of them. Including Amy and Lucy.

Amy and Lucy- (point over at their friend snigger and pull faces in her direction)

Amy- Haha, look at her! Everyone's laughing!

Lucy- What a mess!

The embarrassed girl wonders over towards them, with a red face, and her sad drooping eyes filled with tears, looking extremely distressed.

Sarah- Just so you know Amy, it wasn't your ex I got with last night. How dare you embarrass me like that? We're supposed to be friends. Don't make judgements before you know the actual facts

Turns round, gives her so called friends a last, devious look. Her eyes that force the emotion coming from her, everything else is kept inside, uncomfortably. The girl looks as if about to burst out into tears, carries on walking.

Amy and Lucy exchange looks, and depart from each other, returning to their classes with guilt.
