Title: The Sea Battle

by cosmo from Scotland | in writing, poetry

A cannonball flies, a flying orb of death
An answering shot roars like a raging bull
Swords clash and clang as bodies fall to the thundering sea
And are swallowed by the giants of the ocean.
Explosions crash through stern and bow
Gunshots rattle through the canvas sails
And blood seeps silkily through the oaken boards.
Below deck, glass bursts and shatters
Plates crash to the floor
And splintered wood falls like snow from above.
Corpses lie, drenched in sweat and hardened blood
Eyes open, a final look of fear upon their faces
The glow of death upon their balls of site.
Swords are flung, bodies thrown and waves hammer,
Against the once fine ships.
The final shot is fired
The bullets cease to fly
The swordsmen cease to clash
As the fight is over.
It has been a hard, traumatic time
Lives have been lost
And ships destroyed
But the battle is won,
The war has not yet begun
