Title: Never been the same

by Liz from East Sussex | in writing, fiction

I want him.
No-one else.
No-one else will do.
No-one else is good enough.
Well if you don't know me I'll give you the facts.
I met him eleven days ago.
I left him there after just five.
A week.
Six days.
That's all I had to get to know him in.
A week.
And what did I do?
I fell in love.
With him.
He speaks English.
But not amazingly well.
He lives such a long way away.
I don't even know for sure if I'll see him again.
I don't know why I hold on?
I don't believe it would ever work.
But I would happily pack my bags and leave, if he asked me too.
Yes, I would miss everyone.
My family, my friends, my town.
But when the one person who means everything to you'just isn't there.
What would you do?
Stay?
No, given the choice you'd go.
Right?
Or is it just me?
Only me who is willing to give up everything for someone I hardly know?
You know when I realised I loved him?
When the train to take me home was pulling into the station.
How did I know?
I knew because I'd rather have jumped.
Jumped right in front of that train.
Rather than let it take me away from him.
I remember that journey so clearly.
I wish I didn't but I can't forget it.
That journey changed my life.
I never thought it would affect me this much.
The reasons for everything.
Everything I do, it's changed.
The reason I get up: because I may hear from him today.
The reason I go to school: to learn his language.
The reason I eat and drink: so I'm alive when he sees me.
The reason I sleep: it brings me a day closer to seeing him.
Should it be like this?
Before, I lived my life for me.
I put make-up on for me, not to impress anyone.
I dressed the way I did because that's what I liked.
Following no crowd, not any particular style.
Just my own.
That's what made me, me.
Someone said something to me today.
'You really haven't been the same ever since you came back, have you?'
What was I supposed to say to that?
'Well thanks, you know that's because I've fallen in love with someone who lives over five hundred miles away.'
I think not.
