Title: Social conscience
by Hannah from Hampshire and Isle of Wight | in writing, poetry
When the guns fall silent
Over no-man's-land
When no more misaimed bullets
Tear into innocent flesh
When no more boys
Are torn to shreds
That's when I'll finally rest
When the fighters sleep
A whole night through
When no more bombs
Go bang in the dark
When no more children
Scream with pain in the night
That's when I'll finally rest
When no more homeless
Are kicked for being poor
When the politicians pause
Before they sign the dotted line
When thought precedes action
And pain rules no more
That's when I'll finally rest
When no more children
Are beaten for being slow
When no more animals
Are killed for getting old
When violence no more
Rules the roost
That's when I'll finally rest
I dictate your every move
I never sleep, and stop you too
If you know you walked on past
Atrocities you could have stopped
So when you pay attention
To the things you try and hide
That's when I'll finally rest.
I just thought about the number of things people could prevent if they didn't think it was someone else's responsibility.
