This ceramic sculpture is part of the V&A’s Ceramics collection. It is entitled Monte Alban II and was made by Glenys Barton in 1977 in Stoke-on-Trent, England.
Barton is one of a remarkable group of women ceramicists who emerged from the Royal College of Art in London during the 1970s. The group includes Jill Crowley, Alison Britton, Jacqui Poncelet, Carol McNicoll and Elizabeth Fritsch. Barton is the most purely sculptural of any in this group, and was among the first potters of her generation to be solely represented by a 'fine art' gallery.
