This is my first design for the duo ‘Rizzle Kicks.’ After watching their video and reading their interview I thought that it was important to create a fresh, exciting and urban design for their album cover. This design is made up of a combination of my own photographs and digital drawings along with images that were taken of the pair on the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Blast website. The background is made up of 2 of my own photographs taken of an old, rusting painted wall on Brick Lane. I used 2 photos as the original photo of the green bolts was taken portrait and therefore did not fit the 12 x 12cm criteria. I like the contrasting textures of the patchy rust and thick green paint and think that the colours used are unusual but exciting for an album cover. The wall had a small sticker of a man stuck on it, which I have used as Rizzle’s body and have placed an image of his head on top of the original sticker. I have also used two separate photos of Sylvester from the Blast website to make up his figure, by using a full body photo of him but changing the head part to give a clearer, more powerful image. To continue the theme of urban art and graffiti style that my photos portray I tried to give the logo designed for Rizzle Kicks an old, worn-down look, almost as if it were peeling of the wall. To make this logo more visible and clear I have drawn on a ‘paint splatter’ in white behind the text to give it a contrasting background. I wanted to make the 2 figures; Rizzle and Sylvester look as if they were on a poster that had been stuck on to the wall and damaged and worn over time, fading with rust appearing through the gaps. My inspiration for this was seeing old posters on various walls around London that had the same look; scruffy and eye catching. Overall I think that this is a confident, unique design that really reflects the band’s music and style.
