In my research for my dress design , I found that the Monarch Butterfly migrates to the highland forests of Michoacan in Mexico every year. These butterflies were my inspiration for my design . The front half of the dress uses chiffon for the panel which, as the person walks show a black fitted mini. The panels use the Monarch butterfly's black and orange markings with white beading. The centerpiece is a black woven bodice panel of silk and cotton. It has a traditional black embroidment on top. The back half of the dress is a fitted black mini connected to the front half of the dress by a Amulet. The Amulet is taken from a Mayan design using 'Mexican' colours.A 'wing' of chiffon flows from the back of the dress with the Monarchs markings. The materials I chose reflect the delicate wings of the butterfly , yet the boldness of the design.
