Speaker 1: Hey Annie.
So I've just taken an order, it's for a baby shower.
Are you alright to quote that up for me?
Speaker 2: Yeah that's fine.
Speaker 1: And don't forget the 10% discount because it's a large order.
Speaker 2: OK, thanks Kitty.
(TO AUDIENCE) OK, so I have got 30 cupcakes, a mixture between red velvet, carrot and coconut and raspberry.
A giant cupcake with chocolate fingers around the base.
It's quite a tricky order.
Test your knowledge with this activity.
Speaker 1: I think I've got everything I need to work out the quote; the cost of each of the different types of cupcakes, the cost of the giant cupcake, plus, the extra chocolate fingers that they want.
First, I need to work out the total cost of the small cupcakes.
They said they want 3 different flavours.
I assume they want the same number of each of the different types of cupcake and not every flavour is the same price.
Red velvet are 拢1.95 each, so are carrot, but raspberry and coconut are 拢2.25 each.
They want 30 in total, so that's 30 divided by the 3 flavours, which is 10 of each flavour.
Now, I need to calculate what each of those flavours will cost, by multiplying each of them by 10.
The red velvet and carrot are 拢1.95 each, so I can multiply 拢1.95 by 10.
Because it's timesing by 10, I know I can get the answer by moving the digits 1 place to the left of the decimal point.
So that would be 19.5, which in money, is 拢19.50.
Now to work out the coconut and raspberry.
They're a bit more expensive, they're 拢2.25 each.
Times that by 10 is 拢22.50.
So all I have to do now is add them up.
So I have a total of 拢61.50.
Next I need to add the price of the giant cupcake.
That's 拢25.00, plus the extra fingers that they want, which are 拢5.00.
I can add that up easily, it's 拢91.50.
OK, I think I've got my quote ready.
Speaker 1: Ok, so have we got our quote?
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's 拢91.50.
Speaker 1: Cool, and do you want to show me how you got that?
Speaker 2: So there was 30 cupcakes and there was 3 flavours.
So that's 30 divided by 3, which is 10 of each.
The red velvet was 拢1.95, the carrot's 拢1.95 and coconut and raspberry is 拢2.25.
So I timesed them all by 10 added them all together and got 拢61.50.
Then I added the giant cupcake which is 拢25.00, the 拢5.00 extra for the chocolate fingers, added it all together and got 拢91.50 and then checked it on the calculator.
Speaker 1: Are you forgetting anything?
Speaker 2: The 10% discount.
Speaker 1: Yes.
(TO AUDIENCE) To find 10% you just divide by 10.
So to do that you just shift the digits to the right of the decimal point.
Speaker 2: (TO OTHER PEOPLE) 拢9.15. And then you鈥 take it away from 拢91.50. So that's 拢82.35.
Speaker 1: Perfect. That's done.
