鈥 Describing what is in your bedroom

To ask someone what is in their bedroom, use the following question:鈥

  • Qu鈥檈st-ce qu鈥檌l y a dans ta chambre? - What is in your bedroom?鈥

To reply and describe your bedroom, use either il y a (there is/there are) or 箩鈥檃颈 (I have), 鈥巉ollowed by the item. To say what you don鈥檛 have use il n鈥檡 a pas de (there isn鈥檛 a/ there 鈥巃ren鈥檛 any) or je n鈥檃i pas de (I don鈥檛 have a).鈥

  • Dans ma chambre, il y a un lit - In my bedroom, there is a bed.鈥
  • J鈥檃i une armoire et une commode - I have a wardrobe and a chest of drawers.鈥
  • Il n鈥檡 a pas de bureau - There isn鈥檛 a desk.鈥
  • Je n鈥檃i pas de table de nuit - I don鈥檛 have a bedside table.鈥

Using adjectives to describe your room - colours

You can add more information about your bedroom furniture by including colours. 鈥

The colour must go after the furniture items, as colours are . The 鈥巆olours must also agree with the nouns, and many change when they are feminine or 鈥巔lural. The exceptions are: marron (brown) and orange (orange) which do NOT change. 鈥

  • J鈥檃i un lit bleu - I have a blue bed.鈥
  • Dans ma chambre, il y a une armoire blanche - In my bedroom, there is a white 鈥巜ardrobe.鈥
  • Les rideaux sont verts - The curtains are green.鈥

Other adjectives to describe your room

You can use a variety of adjectives to describe your bedroom. As chambre (bedroom) is a 鈥巉eminine word, the adjectives must agree with the noun, even when they are not right 鈥巒ext to the noun:鈥

  • Ma chambre est assez petite et confortable - My bedroom is quite small and 鈥巆omfortable.鈥

To use the word 鈥榠t鈥 to talk about your bedroom, say elle, because chambre is a feminine 鈥巜ord:鈥

  • J鈥檃ime ma chambre parce qu鈥elle est grande - I like my room because it is big.鈥
  • Je n鈥檃ime pas ranger ma chambre. Elle est toujours en d茅sordre - I don鈥檛 like 鈥巘idying my room. It is always messy.鈥

A preposition of place describes where something is in relation to something else.鈥 Here are some useful prepositions of place you can use to describe where things are in 鈥巠our room: 鈥

  • Il y a un bureau sous la fen锚tre et il y a une lampe sur le bureau - There is a desk 鈥under the window and there is a lamp on the desk.鈥
  • J鈥檃i beaucoup de livres dans ma biblioth猫que - I have lots of books in my 鈥巄ookcase.鈥
  • La commode est entre 濒鈥檃谤尘辞颈谤别 et la porte - The chest of drawers is between the 鈥巜ardrobe and the door.鈥
  • Je n鈥檃i pas de posters sur les murs - I don鈥檛 have any posters on the walls.鈥
