Pressure groups
Description
The clip uses Greenpeace and Amnesty International as examples of successful pressure groups. It explains the tactics that pressure groups can use for their chosen cause - advertising and publicity, demonstrations and boycotts. These should take place within the law or the group may undermine their cause and wider support.
Classroom Ideas
The clip can be used to recap or introduce the study of pressure groups. Following from this, students could work in groups to set up their own pressure group, to deal with a school or community based issue which they may find important. They could work in groups to produce a website or podcast which could campaign on the aims of their pressure group and why they believe this issue is important.
