Colour
Description
Understanding how colours work is an important skill within Art and Design. Colours have different hues, intensity and temperatures which are explored in this video. The colour wheel is used to explain primary, secondary and tertiary colours. It also shows how analogous and complimentary colours interact with each other. Mixing two pure colours results in muted colours that blend together. The value of colour is shown by creating a tint (mixing with white), shade (mixing with black) and tone (mixing with grey) of a pure red. Three examples of artists鈥 work show effective use of colour: Piet Mondrian鈥檚 鈥楥omposition II鈥 is an example of an artist using primary colours, white and black to create a bold and modern-looking work. Winslow 成人快手r鈥檚 鈥楩ishing Boats, Key West鈥 shows the use of shades and tints to create variety in a work mainly comprised of blues and whites. Alphonse Mucha鈥檚 鈥楤agnolet Soap鈥 poster design uses analogous reds and oranges to create a muted, harmonious design that was used to sell soap. Keywords: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Analogous, Complementary, Tint, Shade, Tone, Monochromatic
