Building the pyramids (pt 2/5)

Description

The journey of a slave worker as he travels up the Nile on a boat to Giza, where he joins the army of workers tasked with building a new pyramid.

Classroom Ideas

Students could discuss the boy鈥檚 journey from his village to the quarry and consider his different emotions at each stage: leaving, arriving, seeing all of the food, and finally arriving at the quarry for this first time.

Students could be organised into groups and create a tableau, a frozen picture, of each stage in the story. Students could be encouraged to use facial expressions to express the feelings of the characters. Tap each student on the shoulder to bring them to life and describe their thoughts and feelings out loud. A photograph could be taken of each tableau and used to create a picture story which the students could add text to, describing each event.
