Loch Lomond: gold mine
Description
A variety of view points are put forward for and against the setting up of a gold mine within the National Park. Scotgold鈥檚 initial application was turned down by the National Park Authority in the face of public objections and environmental concerns. Representatives of Scotgold discuss the jobs the scheme would bring to the area and compare these to the seasonal tourism-based jobs that many in the area rely on. Since the film was made, Scotgold revised their application and the National Park Authority has approved their application.

Debate land-use conflict. Discuss the employment available in the National Park and its pros and cons. Consider the impact of mining and extraction industries and how it can be balanced with preserving the visual landscape which attracts tourism to the area.
