Yorkshire Dales - tourism and recreation
Description
Tourism in the Yorkshire Dales is based around the main recreational activities of cycling, hiking, caving and sightseeing. Caves are a major draw and some are run commercially as tourist attractions. Less accessible ones are popular with potholers. All of these much visited sites put the land under great pressure.
Classroom Ideas
Using the Yorkshire Dales as an example, students can identify the different wants and needs of stakeholders linked to the National Park. Students need to identify possible conflicts and come up with potential solutions to the issues identified. Compare tourism in the Dales with a Scottish or global tourism location looking for differences and common factors in issues and solutions.
