The work of an MSP
Description
An MSP鈥檚 work is split between work in parliament and constituency duties. Parliamentary work includes taking part in debates, raising private member鈥檚 bills and dealing with lobbying groups. In their constituency, an MSP has to deal with the difficulties and issues of the people they represent.
Classroom Ideas
This clip could be used to describe the work of an MSP. Following this clip, pupils could participate in a 鈥榙iamond ranking鈥 group activity - where they are given various constituency duties of an MSP on cards and they decide which ones they believe to be most important. The most important would be placed at the 鈥榯op鈥 of the 鈥榙iamond鈥, whereas the duties which they believe were the least important would be placed at the bottom. After discussion, the leader of the group could report their agreed answers back to the class, for a teacher-led class discussion.
