Love of My Life is the second track on the album Supernatural. After his father died in 1997, Santana sought comfort in listening to classical music. This particular song was heavily influenced by the music of Brahms. Santana took the lyrical and sombre cello theme heard in the third movement of Symphony No.3 in F major and transformed it into a Latin-based rock song. He did this by altering the instrumentation, metre, tempo and dynamics.

Main features of fusion music in Love of My Life

The melody is inspired by the classical music of Brahms but the style is quite different. There are hip hop influences and rapping as well as rock band instrumentation. The song also features elements of salsa music, the use of Latin percussion playing Afro-Cuban dance rhythms plus call and response between vocals and guitar.
