Powers
A power (also known as an index/indicesShows how many times a number has been multiplied by itself. The plural of index is indices. or exponent) is a way of writing a number that has been multiplied by itself:
- \(2 \times 2\) can be written as 22 (two squared)
- \(2 \times 2 \times 2\) can be written as 23 (two cubed)
- \(2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2\) can be written as 24 (two to the power of 4), and so on
The small floating digit is known as the power, index number or exponent.
