Reproduction, the genome and gene expression - Edexcel Meiosis
The differences between sexual and asexual reproduction, the structure of DNA and its role in making proteins, mutations and their effects and how characteristics are inherited.
There are two types of cell division called mitosisA type of cell division which produces daughter cells identical to the parent. and meiosisReduction division in a cell in which the chromosome number is halved from diploid to haploid.. Mitosis produces identical diploidA cell that contains two sets of chromosomes. body cells for growth and repair. Meiosis produces haploidA sex cell (gamete) that contains one set of chromosomes. non-identical sex cells, or gameteSex cell (sperm in males and ova/eggs in females).. These fuse to form a diploid fertilised egg cell during fertilisation.
Meiosis produces sperm and egg cells in animals, and pollenMale sex cell (gamete) from flowering plants. and egg cells in plants.
